I have this rich internal life and think deeply about various things throughout the day on a wide range of topics.

I have been thinking for a couple of years about writing and posting somewhere else, but I don’t want to get myself locked into a commitment of posting regularly and feeding the content maw. It is a conundrum.

Writing regular Medium posts with yoga themes is where I might go with this. I already do a lot of prep for my classes and maybe I can use some of that.

This last week I taught with a focus on the midback area. In the evening Wednesday class, I only had two students, one of whom was having an intense sciatica flare up and the other wanted to work on his feet but is very stiff and so getting his hands to his feet was uncomfortable. So, all that prep went dormant as I created a practice on the spot that would address both of their concerns.

I could write about choosing poems for my morning class. I sometimes read 12 or so poems trying to find the right one for the day, for the practice, for the participants. The poem needs to be around a specific length and if it were up to most of the participants, they would always be slightly upbeat, funny, poignant, and inspirational.

Like with the movements I gently push them out of their comfort zone sometimes, but it is complicated finding that balance. The poem that made the most impression on them, however, was the disturbing Margaret Atwood poem on war that I posted here and read the day this February the invasion of Ukraine started. They have thanked me for pushing them a little.

I could write about this intense discussion I am having with a bunch of yoga teachers about using the definite article the vs. using the possessive determinator your when taking about say the movement of an arm. Which can get amazingly spiritual fast.

Or I could write about being a novice gardener and the joy I feel as the seeds I have planted germinate and come up. It feels like a miracle to me.

Maybe I could write about what I am reading…

Birds of a Feather by Jacqueline Winspear #2 in the Maisie Dobbs series. Downtown Abby owes a debt of gratitude to the first book in the series.

Listening to on audiobook…

Song of Myself: The First and Final Editions of the Great American Poem by Walt Whitman

On Podcast…
Amicus – Slate Money – On the Media – Today Explained – The New Yorker Radio Hour – The Gist – Ten Percent Happier and a whole slew of Yoga Podcasts

Legacy Media…

The New York Times, Washington Post, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Nation, AARP magazine…

btw… I had to list all of this stuff, including what murder mysteries I liked and read in the 26-page questionnaire for the jury selection for the murder trial of the romance writer that was just found guilty of murdering her husband this week.

Why not try writing about some of this stuff? I won’t know if I find it rewarding if I don’t try.
