Funemployment, Week 3 in These Foolish Things

So, I’ve settled down some since the Great Mammogram Panic of 2022. The mammogram was on Monday, the callback was on Tuesday, I had a well-woman exam on Wednesday where the gynecologist took a look at my boobs and told me what the report said and basically we had a discussion about how a lot of women get called back from the mammo and it’s probably nothing to worry about and yada yada. My PCP called me today and said the same thing. He also said if there was some urgency and there were things that looked really suspicious, they’d be much more aggressive about getting me in super quickly. I’m concerned, but not freaking.

In work news:

I never heard back from the massive gigantic corporation that I’d interviewed with earlier in the month (let’s call them The Big A), and in googling the shit out of the interview process, I understand that to be highly unusual not to hear back one way or the other because the hiring manager is supposed to fill out special reports about each candidate within like 24-48 hours. It had been two weeks. So I contacted the recruiter who was highly apologetic (he apologized three times in the email reply) and told me that the hiring manager hadn’t done her part. And then another email from the “interview coordinator” telling me that “after thoughtful consideration”, they decided to go in another direction. coughbullshitcough Clearly someone dropped the ball, but it’s not my issue now, is it? They can do whatever they want. Would I like to work for them, truthfully? Sure. But for this product category? Not really. If I’ve said it once I’ll say it a thousand times, I HAVE to have PASSION for the product I’m developing. So that’s out…for now.

I hadn’t heard from the other company…the dream company in over a week as well, and the hiring manager there told me that she was waiting for the official job description to be approved and once that was all clear, she’d reach back out to me. Welllllllll. She hadn’t. And guess what? The job description must have been approved because when I went to the company website, there it was! My dream job description was posted - and it had been on the company website since Monday!

But…

Even though there is a “Senior” in the job title, the description is a little junior to what I’m used to doing. But I tell you what, if the price is right and good enough for me to make a move, I’d take it in a heartbeat.

But maybe the hiring manager didn’t really get a good feel for me during our video chat? I thought it was an excellent discussion.

But what do I know at this point? I also thought my conversation/video chat with The Big A went really well too, so.

We’ll see.

And then Opportunity #3 went even better than I thought it would. I had a phone interview on Wednesday with the president of the company and then another interview today with the hiring manager. They want me to do a little project/presentation - which I’m fine-ish with (these are annoying because they are free work, but I’ll put something good together) and then they want me to find some time for a face-to-face interview. This is the farthest along I’ve gotten so far!

I like the company and I think the product is super fun and happy. It doesn’t hurt that the company is located in a super cool part of a super cool city and I’ve even told them my salary expectations (ugh, hate this part!), and though they told me that I’m on the high end of their budget, they are clearly still talking with me, so…

I must keep this momentum!

This past week was also the big trade show for my former company’s industry. I’ve gone every year for nine years and skipped last year because (A) the pandemic and (B) I was getting a huge chunk of my colon removed at the time. But this would have been my 10th time at the trade show.

I saw all of the postings on LinkedIn and some on the other socials, but meh, I was not impressed. Sure, there was a twinge of FOMO, but I remember every year, very distinctly, the feeling that I’d not be at that trade show the next year. And this was finally the year that the thought caught up to me.

I need something much bigger in my life!

Okay, shall we start the weekend now?
Lets!

They way those companies are bungling their recruitment you probably had a lucky break. Better days are coming!

I was shocked how poorly they handled this one. I'm sure it was lucky, you're right.
