I'm reading The Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and did you know that Pluto was officially ruled a planet in 1999 by the International Astronomical Union?

Hah. Heh.

Only 1999? And now it's no more ready.

Weren't those the between stages of a baby planet and a planet we have now? I can't remember. lol

discovered in 1930, found not to be a planet a few years ago. There are some other objects in space about the same size.. and much further out. http://www.universetoday.com/13573/why-pluto-is-no-longer-a-planet/

a baby planet? Does that mean a small one or one that is in the process of growing?

Before the planets became planets, they started out as debris flying about everywhere. They crashed into each other and then small pre-planets formed, called uh.. I can't remember. Then these little planets became medium-sized planets, and then they became the planets we see today. I'm no scientist, but I know it happened that way from reading that book. :P

I know that. I was just wondering what you meant by "baby" planet. I taught Earth Science for a few years.

Cool! You know what you're talking about more than I do then! :)

I hear his books are great. I need to remember to read some of them.

I LOVE his books! My favorite is At Home. You should definitely read it.

I have "At Home" in my book stack... maybe now that I am not working, I'll try it. I have carrying large books with me when I go to work.
