HIM

1-15-22 Saturday
I did a ton of washing.
then
My Dryer quit working. I think I shorted out the fuse by putting something in there that didn’t wring out enough by the washer.

1-18-22 Tuesday
My husband got around to calling the appliance insurance plan. Last we knew it was 75 dollars a call and they will fix it or replace it. However, that amount has gone crazy higher! $130.00. My husband looked online at things it could be and determined it was a fuse. He bought one. As he was reading about online, he was reading of possible causes. So, he ordered a Vent Cleaning Kit. I didn’t think it was necessary and I envisioned it getting caught in there somehow. Frankly, I would have rather he’d of called a professional to do. It is not a short straight shot. The vent leading out is 11 feet with a bend.

1-23-22 Sunday
(yep, we get packages and Mail on Sunday sometimes and I think it is due to the gal is just lazy on Saturday).
He got the Vent Kit and he ordered a different hose attachment. He seems to think the one we have that worked fine is not what it should be.
He was going to wait for a sunny day to use Vent kit although he didn’t need to wait.

1-25-22 Tuesday
I was gone all day and he used the Vent Kit. It pushed out a bunch of stuff. I was amazed, at the stuff. And he noticed in the vent, there was Fabric Softener buildup. I looked online and it seems Fabric Softener is a bad thing.. even the sheets causes buildup. Who knew.... I have been using Fabric Softener for 42 years.
BUT>>>>>>>
........... when he pulled it back the line with the brush on it, it snapped inside- somewhere- in- that- 11-foot -length-of -vent. UGH! I knew it!!…
I didn’t say anything. It was his doing, and he would fix it.

1-26-22 Wednesday
He started calling Ducting people who service in our area. It seems hard to find someone.

1-27-22 Thursday
In the mail came a Pipe Camera. He wanted to know where that brush was stuck.
WELL.......
I am thinking it is a good thing that my dryer quit working and that he got a Vent Cleaning Kit AND it broke because we would have never known the following…
When he put the camera in the vent it showed Wood and what looked like Insulation. How does that get into a Dryer Vent?
Unless at the bend, the Vent came apart at some point.
Has it always been like that for 20 years? Or did it happen when he pulled the brush back and if it did well it would seem the Vent wasn’t properly connected together at the bend.
AND
Just where has all that lint been going? I have thought it odd that I never see any lint coming out of the outside Vent when the dryer is on, but you see the Vent doors open from the air coming out. In past places we have lived I have seen some traces of lint on the ground beneath the Vent

1-28-22 Friday
The man came out this morning and he took pictures with his Pipe Camera and took the info back to the company.

1-31-22 Monday
They will come out Thursday. They will be going through the floor in our bedroom. We too thought it would be better to go through the upstairs floor rather than the ceiling in the dining room.

2-3-22 Thursday
They called and said it would be Friday.

2-4-22 Friday
They came about 9am. The slit they made in the floor was way smaller than I would have thought. Not much room to work with, but I guess they know what they are doing and are used to working in small places. I’d of made the hole 3 times as big myself at least!
WOW.. Just WOW.. There is years of collected lint. They pulled arms full.
The Vent at the bend had been connected together with Duct Tape. THAT is not what you are supposed to use. In time the heat would cause the sticky part to disintegrate of which it seems it did. So, most of all the Lint was under the floor surrounding the Vent. Wow.. what a Fire Hazard!

Basically in 3 hours, they cut a hole in the floor, got out some of the lint, blew out some lint, reconnected the Vent, sealed everything back up. The only thing they supplied for us was the Vent Tape and..... for their time.... a mere Grand, Please!

We are back in business.
My husband was anxious for me to use the dryer. LOL

I often wonder how much lint is in my dryer vent pipe. I know it takes much longer to dry my clothes than it used to. I switched to using dryer balls over 10 years ago. Clothes may not be as soft with dryer sheets but safer. You should also wash your lint collector every once in a while. Hmmmm, maybe I should do that.

It’s crazy what people will do when they build houses or make repairs. Our old house was a nightmare of jury-rigged fixes.
