Wednesday already? I can tell you what started out as me thinking this was going to be a quiet, easy week at work - a sort of “in-school suspension” as [Elaine Benes]’s friend calls it, has turned out to be pretty busy.
In a way, it’s good because this week is flying by. I’m not complaining. We’ll likely get out pretty early tomorrow too. Bonus.
I was able to take Monday off and it was a decent day. I got up at normal time and did my workout and got all ready like I would be going to work, but instead had one video interview with my target company and a phone call with an HR manager of another super cool company.
The first interview was a little disappointing. I had an idea that it might be as it’s not the actual role that I’m targeting. The title and duties are part of what I do, but not ALL of what I do and I also found out the the category she’s trying to fill for is not what the HR manager told me…which reminds me that I need to send a note to the HR person about that.
…and done.
Anyway, the VP I talked with (video meeting) was one of those typical old school execs. Though female, I could read her body language and know that she doesn’t mess around, which is fine, but I didn’t seem to vibe with her because I know this role is not quite a fit.
So I was bummed about that. But I am also adamant that there’s another role that is PERFECT for me when it opens up. I KNOW IT! There’s a whole other department that’s being rolled out with my name on one of the seats. They have to know this!
We must make it so.
The second interview was a quick phone call with a very hip and innovative company that is a name you would know. They are young and fast and fun and fabulous and I had a great conversation with the HR person. However, we discussed salary range to make sure we were on the same page and it was a little more than half of what I’m making now. I get it - the smaller, more nimble companies have a younger, greener staff that don’t make as much but they move and shake. I’d actually be interested in getting my foot in the door, but the interviewer and I both agreed that this might not be the perfect position for me. She did say, however, that she liked our conversation and that through my tone and sense of humor she knew I’d be a good fit with their culture (very much a compliment), and she wants to keep in touch.
Next Wednesday is my big video interview with all of the execs at Company #3, and though the salary is double what Company #2 was suggesting, I don’t know if I’m the best fit for them either. Still, I want to do a decent job on my interview and I’m taking it very seriously. This could be the fall-back option? Maybe? Could I take it for 4-6 months while Company #1 gets their act together?
Lots to consider.
On a different note, I need to write about my health stuff, but don’t necessarily want to do that right now (it’s quitting time - in more ways than one…ha!).
But I will tell you that amid all of this cancer and aches and pains and joint stiffness, I broke a tooth. Ughhhh! I have the WORST dental luck! I honestly did not want any medical staff of any kind touching my body until the first of the year, but when you break a tooth, you gotta make sure you get it fixed!
So off I went to the dentist first thing this morning. Yuck.
Did I mention that it was a gold partial crown that broke? I guess I ate the stuff. Yum. Anyway. They put in a temporary and I’ll be looking forward to yet another gold toof in the near future (AND I STILL haven’t gotten my implant done! I’m still walking around with my flipping FLIPPER tooth!).
Isn’t this supposed to be the season of cheer?
OK. Speaking of quitting time…
