Let's Not Forget in Everyday Ramblings

Vincent van Gogh — ‘Let’s not forget that the little emotions are the great captains of our lives, and we obey them without realizing it.’

I can happily say that my emotions are a little less dark than they were a few days ago as we head into Christmas week. I was able to get out for a walk and get some pictures of interest, not easy this time of year.

After mentioning to one of my classes that I was finding solace and joy in classical music again, listening to Performance Today, one of the students suggested that I listen through my Bluetooth headphones so I can do chores at the same time I have been enjoying the richness of better and better recording techniques and a lot of holiday classics. Who knew the cheering effect of the Nutcracker Suite?

Clearly, somebody, considering how many versions of the ballet there are out there each year.

Also, honestly, missing my Wednesday class and then having my students otherwise engaged for the next day’s weightlifting practice were both good for me. The inflammation in my hip is way better. I can still feel it, but it feels like healing does.

And Diego is not throwing up. I had no idea how wearing that all was until it went on pause.

I am grateful for all the various interests I indulge in and the way my own yoga practice, something I don’t often talk about, keeps me grounded.

So… I can get pushed off center into a pool of overwhelm like I was earlier this week and slowly right myself. It is not exactly a bounce back, more a bit of an emotional slog but the moving and the body awareness and breathing help.

Small, bite sized goals are beginning to surface for next year. With a focus of asking for help. Help with the seedlings, help with the website and lighting and editing the videos, help with deciding when and where to teach in person again, help with cleaning and organizing and divesting myself of “stuff”. Help with my hair and teeth and the patchy spot the zapping after my last melanoma screening left on my forehead.

I will be able to get some plants into my plot late in March about the time we go back to the beach. That is only 3 ½ months away! Oh, gods of the turning planet bring on the Winter Solstice, Tuesday, roll it on in. I am so ready.

Good news on the grocery store front. The Kroger corporation came up (miraculously!) with a decent contract after only one day of a walk out and strike during the week before Christmas. The company may not appreciate its workers, but I can say that there was huge support here for these folks who have worked all the way through the pandemic. They were set to lose a ton of business.

Here come the masses of crows in to roost and keep watch for what is going to be a long wet night.

There is much to be thankful for, and I am trying to focus on that.

Yes, bite size goals is a perfect goal at a perfect time.
Fingers crossed Diego stays feeling well.

Glad Krogers decided to be more reasonable . It did not seem to affect our Krogers at all . They are advertising for help but only offer $12.00 an hour to start. A modest sandwich out here costs $5.00 . Who is going to work for a wage that would only pay for two sandwiches ? Who could live on that wage. They are going to be struggling for help unless they start paying fairly .

They were offering $17 an hour to strike breakers.

That is much more fair . The cost of living here has skyrocketed . All over I guess but it’s shocking to us that were accustomed to much lower prices. 🤦‍♀️

Although strike breakers are putting themselves at risk :-(

Great Van Gogh quote. I have my own version: Logic does not rule the world, emotions do. So glad to hear Diego is doing well. Mine hasn't thrown up in a while either and I am so grateful to still have him in my life.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday. Now that the days are getting longer again, we can plunge into the new year with more light to guide us.
