Ten Things in These Foolish Things

  1. Feeling good today. I still woke up with the slight morning sickness feeling, but the nausea meds do a pretty good job of keeping that at bay and feeling decent. A light workout gets the blood pumping and a quick guided meditation afterwards gets my mind right. I am thrilled that I still have a week to feel this good until my second infusion.

  2. At the office and still don’t know a whole lot about what’s going to happen with the new org structure. I can tell you that the woman I’ll be working for is pretty special. Before we knew any of the organizational changes, she actually gave me an amazing “cancer kit” gift box full of really special little items (teas, essential oils, cookies, words of encouragement, etc). It made me tear up. She is a very caring person, and even though this change feels like a demotion, it makes sense from an organizational standpoint. Also, there’s NO WAY I could have gotten a promotion at this moment in time. I’m not in the right place mentally or physically, so it’s going to be okay. I will ride this one out and she can cover for me. Perhaps this was done completely on purpose? Hmmm.

  3. My fancy LV bag for FOXY (the portable chemo I have to carry around for 48 hours each round) arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, the leather tab to hold the strap in place was actually broken when I received it! I was very disappointed at first - I mean, I paid a very pretty penny for this bag, and it was also supposedly a non-returnable item! Even though it was after hours, I called The Real Real customer service and they were great - the CS agent apologized profusely to me and stayed on the phone while I snapped a couple of photos of the damage and sent me a return authorization and a simple way to get the item back to them. I was impressed and pleased that this should be an easy transaction and I can drop the box back off at the UPS store during my lunch break. The other thing about this bag is that I’m almost glad that it came in broken because I didn’t love the style after all. It was a little more clunky than I imagined and the leather was stiff and hard. I mean, it would have worked just fine, but I’d rather wear something I really like, you know?

  4. I’d rather use the $$$ that I would have paid for that bag to support a better cause, so I’ll be on the lookout for something different to carry FOXY in and hopefully be able to actually see where my support is going. I’m going to explore more local and other options.

  5. I’ve publicly sworn I’d never, ever wear UGGS - regardless of the comfort factor, they are so friggin ugly on everyone, but a friend of mine just sent me some sparkling silver glitter UGGS that are cute as can be! She also sent me a note telling me that I sparkle inside and out and OF COURSE I will be making an exception for her.

  6. People are so fucking amazing, aren’t they?

  7. Remember the Opera Singer? I don’t think I’ve written about him in well over a year because Covid kept him from doing his world-wide travel (and then travel to my area). Well, he came to town because the city opera was having a grand re-opening and he was to do a special performance tonight! I messaged him a few days ago telling him that I saw he was coming to town and we ended up getting together for a quick patio drink on Monday evening. It was sooooo nice to sit outside and feel like a normal human being. After a glass of wine and a beautiful conversation, he walked me home and I told him best of luck with the show. Unfortunately, the show was canceled at the last minute because a vendor of the opera tested positive for covid!! I messaged Opera Singer to ask if he was okay! He said he was fine, just super annoyed that the guy (turns out it was a photographer) even got in the opera house without a covid test! I asked if he got close to the guy and he said no, but that he was close to someone who was close to the guy. Opera Singer has only had his first vaccine, so he’s somewhat protected, but…just…ugh. This is how life is going to be for a while, I guess. What a shame.

  8. My apartment building SOLD to a new owner and they have taken over as of yesterday. They are requiring us all to pay our rent on April 1 with a check. Hahah. Who writes checks anymore? This is such a weird thing and a pain in the ass. Then they want us to drop off the checks during business hours. So those of us who go to work in an office are kind of screwed. Ah, life’s little annoyances. Again, who writes checks?!

  9. I still need to look for new places to live. I’ve been doing that sporadically between work and figuring out this cancer stuff. This is not an easy proposition right now.

  10. I am ready to go pick up Martini at daycare, take her for a walk and call it a day. It’s actually been a VERY good day and I’m happy right now.

Love to you all,
GS

I'm loving this positive entry. Except for the 19th century building management, of course! xx

Right?

And thank you! Positive energy ONLY!

I have to write checks to our power company. That is the only check I write usually. If you do not pay by check they charge you an extra fee . 🤦‍♀️
Those were ten fairly positive things except for needing to move but finding a new wonderful place could be exciting . Hugs!

I don’t even know where to look for my checkbook. Bizarre request.

Glad you’re feeling good! I’ve been through a lot of those not-a-demotion-but-feels-and-looks-like-it-on-the-org-chart things. It’s a lot better when the person you suddenly work for isn’t a monster. You’re plan to lean into it while you’re going through this, then get a fantastic new job once you’re done with chemo is a good one. My friend from a previous job did exactly this!

Too bad about the bag, but great about the return.

I remember when I moved back here, they asked for a check for the deposit. I haven't had a checkbook in twenty years.

A cheque??? For rent??? What century are they living in?! That change at work has come just at the right time I think and I’m so glad your boss is such a nice person! Poor Opera Singer though - that must have been such a huge disappointment for him.
