Next Step Forward in New Beginnings

I got the condo! The seller took his sweet time responding. Apparently, someone else made an offer of the seller's asking price, but the seller declined because that person wanted too many "concessions". My realtor didn't clarify what that meant, but regardless, he declined that offer and asked me to submit my best offer. I wanted to raise my offer by $5k, but my realtor thought I would be over extending myself, so I only raised it $4k, and he accepted it!

I expect to close in two weeks. I'm equal parts nervous and excited. I'm excited to finally have my own place. MINE! If I want to read in the living room, I don't have to worry about a roommate coming down while blasting a soccer game on his Droid. I can also sit in the living room for whatever reason (watching T.V., reading, or just vegging), without anyone presuming that my presence means I'm available to have a conversation. I also don't have to watch T.V. on my laptop with my headphones on because no one else will be bothered by the noise. I can actually eat at a kitchen table because it won't consistently be covered by someone elses's stuff. I can do laundry whenever I want or need to because no one else will be using the washer or dryer. I'll have a bedroom and a closet big enough to actually keep a neat, orderly room (when a guy is complaining about lack of closet space, you know it's bad). It's going to rock!

I'm only nervous because so many times in the past, whenever I started to make progress at improving my life, someone else's problems will spill over into my life killing my forward momentum. I really, really, really hope that doesn't happen.

Congratulations! After some rough times my senior year of college, I decided no more sharing living space with anyone (until I got married, of course). It's occasionally challenging, but I think it's worth it!

The main thing I missed, having gone from renting to owning is that you can't just call "maintenance" to fix something. Pity, that. :-(
