NJM 2020, Entry 13 - The Official Morning Routine in These Foolish Things

Good morning everyone. I am having a splendid day so far today. Some of it has to do with the fact that I’ve done my OMR (Official Morning Routine) for two days in a row - and three days this week! There’s nothing like the feeling of starting the morning off right.

The OMR is simple and consists of the following:

  • 1 snooze button snooze - only one! This is a toughie because if I allow myself more than one then the routine is broken. I’d love to be able to pop right up in the morning like I used to, but I’m working on that.

  • 10 minutes of meditation. Thanks to [pandora] for showing me a simple way to accomplish this

  • 30 minutes of exercise. I’ve found a workout routine that works for me right now. It involves no lifting and no strain on my neck

  • Bed made - shower - news - decaf coffee - dress - GO!

This simple routine helps me feel accomplished and ready to go in the morning. I don’t know why it’s been so hard during the pandemic. I’ve actually had this routine before. It was before I started going to Orangetheory at 4:30 in the morning (the INSANE routine that nearly killed me).

But after the carotid injury last year, I stopped working out for nearly a year (if you don’t count the walking), and the OMR fell to the wayside. And then 2020 happened.

Anyway. The OMR has not yet become a habit, but I’m working on that. Naming it, like I just did as I wrote out this entry, is something that helps me stick to my plan. I have a name for it now, and I just wrote a whole entry about it, so now it is A Thing.

Good things seem to happen when I feel like I’ve got my shit together in the morning. Already I’ve gotten compliments on my outfit when I dropped the dog off at her daycare AND a guy bought me a coffee this morning! I am crediting the OMR!

Better go. Presentation this morning. With this momentum, it will rock!

Happy Friday (the 13th, but we won’t mention that), All!

Happy Friday! If you want more snoozes on your alarm, why don't you set it earlier?! xx

Ginger Snap November 13, 2020

Ha! I don’t want more snoozes! It’s a bad habit!

Nice! I write out whole-day routines for myself sometimes but I never seem to stick to them, I am too abstract.

Ha! I think the whole day routine might be difficult.

Exercise definitely helps the attitude. Attitude is everything.
Rock on!!
(Personally, I hate the snooze button.)

Ginger Snap WhatDreamsMayCome ⋅ November 13, 2020

I hate it too, but you gotta understand that I’m whittling it down from about FIVE snoozes!! 🤣

You’re rocking this November girl! :)

It's such a good idea to write it out and name it! That's awesome. How nice to get all that good stuff "out of the way" first thing in the morning. What does your workout entail?

Yes!
