Job Interviews in the Age of Covid in These Foolish Things

Whelp. The presentation interview with Giant Corporation is over, and I am…slightly devastated.
I did so much fucking work on this project. Like, hours and hours of digging through numbers and checking out competition and rolling around ideas in my head and editing and reworking and thinking and thinking and finding the best images to put in the presentation.
And then today rolled around - interview at 10am - and I had technical difficulties for the first FULL TEN MINUTES. Like, I couldn’t log onto Teams and then I couldn’t get my screen to share and then we decided that I should send my presentation in an email, but it was too fucking big. And then I tried to save it to a .PDF file but it was taking too long. So finally they just said, okay, give us your presentation without the visuals.
So, fuck! I started talking, but you NEED the visuals. And finally, my presentation showed up by the last three slides.
Ugh. I can’t say it was a disaster, but the first part was. I could tell that two people were annoyed and if I’m being honest, I would have been annoyed as well. Like, if you can’t get your shit to work during an interview, don’t even try. You know?
Just. Ugh.
But I will say that two people on the call were helpful and nice. And they told me that I had grace under fire. And I truly believe that my presentation was a work of art. But still. Those glitches.
So now I’m thinking that I need to start over again with another company. I mean, right? I blew it. I can use it as a learning (I learned that Teams does not work on my Macbook Pro correctly - I kinda knew that from our last call when I was on video and she wasn’t, remember?) and move on.
And. I have yet another presentation I have to give this afternoon at my REAL job, so I better get moving along and make sure all is ready for that one.
You guys. Just…

P.S. I also have thoughts on this (can’t stop my brain). I don’t know that I would want the job anyway as the product they make/sell is SO FAR from my area of expertise, but I think the process is similar. I just don’t know what to think of it all. I would have much preferred to ace this, think about it and then turn it down on my own terms, but I don’t see that scenario as likely.
P.P.S. In case you’re wondering, yes, I emailed the full presentation to all attendees after the videoconference. And I thanked them for their time and didn’t mention the glitches in the email.

Man, shit like that really hurts. At least now I know I'm not the only one who hates Teams.

Damn. Come to think of it, during my Teams virtual interview, they could see me fine but I was only able to see the one person at a time who was speaking, and even that was glitchy. I'm so sorry...but don't count yourself out yet. You never know.

I think it would be incredibly unfair to mark you down because of technical hitches when you have no choice but to do it that way - especially if it was such a good presentation. And surely keeping your cool while it was all going on counts for something?

Teams is shit. I hate it, and I only use the web app and not the regular app because I absolutely cannot stand things popping up in the corner of my screen as I am trying to work, never mind that 90% of it is chit-chat and the other 10% is Miranda with manufactured disasters asking me "ARE YOU THERE?!?" So I blame Microsoft for this and think Bill Gates owes you compensation for it.

I don't think you necessarily need a new company. Tech problems do happen. Maybe you can request to do it again?

In this age of Covid I can not imagine they have not seen the tech malfunction before . They need to let you present again .
