RAD: The British-American in These Foolish Things

Name: B-A. He’s from the UK but has lived in the US for 15 years and became a citizen last year.

Introduction Platform: Hinge

Age: 50

Relationship Status: Divorced two years ago after 18 years of marriage. Two kids, 16 and 12, I think.

Job: Corporate trainer for giant global corporation

Lives: The burbs close to the airport because he traveled so much before Covid

Length of Date: 1 hour (lunch)

We Did: Lunch close to my office. And even though I told him that I was being very careful and ONLY meeting people on outdoor patios, he tried to hug me as a greeting. No. No. NO!

He Looked: Very meh. Bald (nothing wrong with that, mind you), very boring short sleeved woven shirt, jeans, meh shoes, yellow teeth

I Looked: I purposely dressed for a lunch date today - zebra print skirt, off-the-shoulder floaty top, calfskin kitten heeled mules, all the accessories (necklace, rings, watch, bracelets). Like, I made an effort unlike him. I feel like Covid has made people schlumpy and less aware of their appearance.

Convo: Meh. Just superficial general stuff. I do believe we both asked enough questions about each other - it’s just that the sparks weren’t flying from the get-go. I think that when I back away from a hug it throws us both.

High Point: Lunch. I had sushi for the first time since Covid started!

Low Point: The usual. No sparks.

How It Ended: Our time was up and I needed to get back to the office. I told him I needed to go and he grabbed the check and even though I offered, he insisted on paying. I did not fight it. I thanked him and we went our separate ways.

Chances Are: Zero. He sent me a text an hour after lunch, “Hi Ginger. Hope you’re having a good rest of afternoon. Nice meeting you for lunch, bu I don’t believe we are each other’s ‘person’. Wish you all the best. B-A.

Date Rating: D for Dud

"He’s from the UK but has lived in the US for 15 years and became a citizen last year." Guess I'm still hungover from the debate, too, because I said, aloud, "Oh, gawd, WHY?"

Sounds like a great outfit. Too bad you had to crinkle it for a dud. Or, as I used to say when I could put myself through dating, "Well, that was a waste of make-up."

I hope the sushi was good!

I kinda of like how he closed it. But yellow teeth, euuw.

Complicated Disaster October 01, 2020

I've found recently the social distancing awkwardness when meeting makes a good conversation starter! Who even thinks about going in for a hug these days?? At least the sushi was good! Xx

You’ve had a rotten year of mainly duds this year haven’t you? Here’s to better prospects in 2021! :)

Glad he was bright enough to realize the sparks weren't there and didn't try to force something out of nothing.

Not every Brit is a Hugh Grant or even a Kit Harrington. A lot of Brits are very reserved and you have to get to know them. My Brit hardly ever shows emotion happy or sad Etc. He proposed to me by saying “I don’t know if you know this or not, but I’ve grown quite fond of you. I think we should get married.“ That was it that’s about the most romantic he’s ever gotten. But, that really works for me. I don’t like being touched a lot. I don’t want any pet names or darlings or dearest. He stays in his space and I stay in mine and truth be known and I know this with every fiber of my being, we love each other deeply. this guy was not “your Brits, but don’t rule the BRITs out based on him. The French saying is, “horses for courses“. Some horses run the short race, some win long races and others are mudders and prefer to run in the mud. You just never know until you see them on the track. Also most American women scare the shit out of British men.

I know. I love Brits! This guy was not my British-American, however. I'd love to find my Brit...or my Swede...or my Frenchie..or my Argentinian...or my African...or whomever. I just want my person!
