On Sept 17th I went to have a CAT scan and a Pulmonary Function Test.
Had the Cat and was in the lab for the PFT when Cat scan called to say do NOT do the test...... When the tech got off the phone and I asked what was up, he told me I had a Pulmonary Embolism, and that we could not do the test now....that I needed to go back upstairs to talk to the Radiologist about the results
Luckily for me, my Aunt had driven me in and was upstairs visiting in the ICU where she used to work. I called to to come down to listen with me so I didn't miss anything.........
Sure enough, it was a "saddle" embolism, which means it was half in the main vein and half in a smaller vessal, which made the chances of it moving were really high.
Wonderful. And scary as hell. People die from blood clots.
They admit me and ran a bunch more tests only to discover that I had another clot in my right leg as well as the lung. They decided to put in a Greenfield filter to protect me from any more clots moving from the legs to the torso, which I voted for. They did that on Wed.
Thurs. they came in and said I could go home, except for the fact that I still needed the belly shots of blood thinner, and asked if I thought I could do them myself at home. I said yes, so once Aetna approved the meds, I was sprung.
I'm tired, and still coughing up gunk from the lung infection. But I'm finally beginning to feel better.
The Gods are good. And I am feeling very grateful.
