I start high school in about 6 days. That’s crazy to me. 8th grade year flew by. That’s probably because the last half of second semester was taken away from me due to Corona virus. My 8th grade class didn’t get any type of graduation, at all. We just got sent into 5 months of the longest, most boring period of my life. Toward the end of the summer, around June, my family finally decided to go on a vacation to Frisco, Colorado. It was a 32 hour drive round-trip from where I live. But it was beautiful, and it was so worth it. Even though we had to wear masks just abut everywhere we went, that trip somewhat convinced me that my life might be normal again.. at some point. So anyway, summer is finally coming to an end. It is currently 12:50 a.m. August 19th, 2020. Me and my boyfriend John hit one year 3 days ago, he turned 15 two days ago, and I start high school in less than a week. I still can’t get over that. I did the same thing about middle school, and I’m sure in about 4 weeks from now I’ll look back and think I was ridiculous for worrying so much. But, it isn’t really worry at this point, it’s excitement! I’m at a new school, a bigger school. I get a clean slate. I get to be a better person than I was in middle school. Because if I’m being honest, I wasn’t popular, but I was snarky. I was full of myself and I thought I was just the queen of the school. When obviously it wasn’t me it was the girls that lived in big houses by a lake and had parents with PhD’s. But forget all of that, I’m starting over. About halfway through 8th grade I realized that people liked others who were kind. So I cleaned up my act and started treating people better. Immediately, I began to gain more friends. Quarantine really opened up my eyes too. For one, it really showed me the difference between my “school friends” and my actual friends. I started to see people’s true colors and realized who I wanted to be. That’s why I’m walking into high school with a positive, happy attitude. I’m not gonna wear makeup everyday, and I’m not going to try to impress people who don’t even look my way. I’m just gonna be who I am and if that isn’t enough for some people then I don’t need them involved with me anyway. I’m going to respect everyone. That kid with no friends? I’m not going to give him a sideways look like I would’ve two years ago. I’m going to give him a genuine smile and maybe even talk to him. Because everyone needs someone. So I am going to spread positivity, kindness, and love. I’m the little fish now. I’ll keep my head up and eyes forward, avoiding any eye contact with the juniors and seniors.
