Just a Little Off the Top? in These Foolish Things

Today I went to Mom and Dad’s and, as I reported yesterday, my SIL wanted me to try to fix her hair. My mom had cut it last week into a long bob, and I didn’t realize it, but she wanted it even shorter. Much shorter! I thought she just wanted me to style it, but no. She wanted another cut!

So I donned my scissors and off I went, chopping merrily along, and she kept telling me, “shorter, shorter!”

So I obliged and kept cutting it into an adorable short bob! I was having so much fun, when I needed her to look up so I could make sure that I was getting it all even.

I asked her a couple of times to look up…look up.

And when she didn’t respond, I curled my body around to see her face and she was just staring off into space…then her eyes closed and she started having a seizure! Her hands were balled up into fists and her arms were just shaking and shaking. And her head started shaking as well.

I asked her, “Annie! Are you okay?”

“Annie! Can you hear me?”

“Annie…let’s sit down.”

And she did. She sat down on my mom’s vanity chair and kind of came to. I asked her if she knew what was happening and she said she was dizzy and feeling weird. Not really sure. Then mumblings of something. Then she put her head down on the vanity. Then…mooooooaaanssss. Then…

I could tell she was going to vomit.

So I got her over to the toilet and she threw up.

And then…

My mom heard the commotion and came to see what was going on while I went to get Annie a glass of water.

And then she was okay!! It was like the throwing up made her feel better and kind of snapped her out of it.

I actually finished the hair cut (because I was halfway in the middle of it when she seized) and I even styled it with the flat iron.

She kept telling me that nothing like that has ever happened to her and didn’t remember going from standing up to sitting down and then to throwing up. She just remembered the throwing up part.

My mother kept asking if she was pregnant, wanting to know when her period was and when she last had sex with my brother (ewwww, MOM!! GOD), but I kept trying to tell her without scaring Annie that she had a SEIZURE and that it’s NOT morning sickness!

Annie seemed perfectly fine after that. But I’m worried about her. I talked with my brother while Annie went to lie down and my bro said that she didn’t remember convulsing. I said that I understand…I was the only one to see her actually have the seizure, but I can promise you that she did!! I told him that if anything weird happens to her to take her to the ER right away!

I went home and called a couple of hours later and it was as if nothing had ever happened. My poor, sweet SIL. I ache for her. She is so far from her own family in China and just had a major issue during a pandemic!

I’m praying she’s okay. She’s helped my parents out so much during this crisis and we all kind of need her to be healthy, but if she’s not, of course we will take care of our beloved Annie.

2020 can suck balls, y’all.

Ever,
GS

Oh no! I hope nothing worse happens!

Yikes, that sounds like it would have been so scary. I learned via my work about how many different types of seizures there are and - gosh. It's a whole world I know nothing about. I hope she is going to be ok, but I'm glad you were there to make sure she didn't fall or something!

Crumbs! Not what you expected, right! xx

Wow that’s really scary! I’m glad you’re brother is super protective and will make sure she sees the doc. Christ! 2020 - haven’t we all had enough already!

Exactly!! I hope it was just one scary episode! But she’ll go to the doc for sure.

Oh no! That’s so scary. I was with a friend when he had a seizure and it was terrifying to watch. I think I was more shaken up than he was and I knew he had just been diagnosed with epilepsy. Not being able to remember what happened is normal too.

It was so traumatic to see. She didn't remember a thing, really. But I watched her just fall out of consciousness and shake uncontrollably. It was a shock.

I hope she is not coming down with something. :-(

I don't think having a seizure is along the same lines as craving ice cream and pickles. Sure hope she's okay.
