What Day is it? in These Foolish Things

So. Day 1 back in the office at new-old job. I say “new” because I was re-hired, but of course, it is my old job. It’s bizarre. Everything was frozen in time. Nothing has been worked on. It might as well be April 10th (the day after I was told I was laid off) today.

I knew it would happen. I’ve already had people chomping at the bit to discuss status updates. That’s fine. I’m not killing myself and I’m just sort of easing my way back in…looking around the office for signs of familiarity.

We are doing this 50% capacity thing where 50% of the office will work in the office for a week and 50% will work from home the same week and then switch. I think this is a good move and it’s working smoothly so far. The entrances have been condensed to only one way in and out and you have to log in, fill out a form and sign it, stating you have not been exposed to Covid, etc. and then wash your hands before you can enter your workspace. There are cleaning products all over the office and everyone must wear a mask except when you are sitting at your desk and working solo. If anyone comes to talk, you must both don your masks. If you get up to walk anywhere, you must wear your mask and socially distance. So far so good.

I said hello to Golden Boy to see if he wanted to touch base in case he had touched any of my projects and he was like YES we need to get together, but it sounded more like he wants help with some other projects that I was helping him with before I was let go.

And I have a list from Boss, but it just appears that it’s the same list I left him with on my last few days working! See? Frozen in time!

I got to take my lunchtime walk. It was nice to get out of the office at the halfway mark. I wasn’t sure I would be able to, but I got to get some nice sunshine and take a good walk. Once again, felt like old times. It was comforting in a way - almost made me feel like things are right with the world - even though they are not even close to being right.

I don’t know what’s what right now. But I do know that I’m extremely happy to have this job. I’m so much better with a schedule and a sense of being right now. Sure, it’s already stressful, but I’m super pleased with how it’s been so far.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings…
Until then,
GS

Man, that sounds bizarre in a way. I like the schedule.

Wranglingal June 16, 2020

Glad you feel better about working and being in schedule. I hope you have a good week anyways! Take Care

Marg June 16, 2020

Aw that sounds like a good easing back into things :)

Complicated Disaster June 16, 2020

I wonder how long it'll be before they are berating you for being late with your projects?!! xx

Ginger Snap Complicated Disaster ⋅ June 16, 2020

EXACTLY!!! My boss is already saying, "Well, you were gone for 8 weeks.." ACTUALLY, it was NINE weeks!

bobbi01 June 16, 2020

It's like every thing was just put on pause. At least nobody has been tinkering with your projects.

Athena June 16, 2020

Glad that went well.

Ginger Snap Athena ⋅ June 16, 2020

So far so good. Crossing fingers for more positivity.

Did you lose your vacation time/401k vesting/etc? The "re-hire" wording is curious and would make me very uneasy.

Ginger Snap Parliament ⋅ June 17, 2020

No. Did not lose vacay. But the company dropped the 401k marching early on in the crisis for everyone (all employees).

"Frozen in time" perfectly sums up my experience, too. At least my physical work station.

Glad you got your job back !
