In this episode of “What will she talk about now?”, I go through my hair products for you. I talk about my shampoo, conditionerS, hairbrush, showercap, night cap (Buff), hair clips, hair dryer, curl cream, gel, curly hair serum, and whatever the heck else I pulled into my bathroom to make this video. I did not acquire all of these products in one go, and I have a few more things I didn’t pull out, because I don’t use them as part of my hair doing routine. I buy high end hair products for a few reasons: I know what works on my hair at this point, I am (finally) committed to having curly hair, and I am extremely frugal and got my stuff for super cheap (but I’d buy it anyway at full price, because it keeps my hair looking super fly). If you look up the Curly Girl Method, there are suggestions for drugstore hair products to get you started. You can literally pick up a $1 (okay, maybe it’s not that cheap anymore…) bottle of VO5 for clarifying shampoo. And then other sub $5 bottles of shampoo and conditioner. You can use the old school blue LA Looks or DEP hair gel. You do NOT have to spend $46 on a big ass bottle of hair gel at this point when you don’t even know if it’s the right gel for your hair.

And let me say this: Converting to curly hair was TERRIFYING for me. I was soooooo worried about screwing it up or doing it wrong. But guess what? Hair is forgiving when you’re just doing things to enhance it. Go figure…

Down the rabbit hole... June 15, 2020

I didn't actually watch the video bc I'm at work... but my hair is naturally curly and I'm terrible at taking care of it. Im lucky if I brush it and it's always a tangled mess bc I go to sleep and constantly have animals climbing on my head.

This note CRACKED ME UP. WHY do you constantly have animals climbing on your head?? This is not usual! My brother has a jack russel terrier that, when he was a puppy, would try to nest in my hair. It would drive me NUTS, because he'd get all tangled in it and then panic because he was stuck in my hair and then would rip my hair out.

I definitely do NOT brush my hair unless I'm in the shower and it's full of conditioner! So, once a week or so :) I have developed a lazy person's routine for caring for my hair, if that makes you feel any better!

Lol... oddly enough I currently have 2 jack russells (it used to be 3) and a havanese/schnauzer demon. Along with 2 cats in particular that like to lay on my head/face. Between them and me moving in my sleep my hair turns into a rat's nest.

I can't remember if it was Curly Girl or maybe Diva Curl..one of them was "in the news" recently for their products causing hair loss!

I really wish I could have curly hair although it's probably a really good thing I don't since I put zero effort into my hair.

It was Deva Carl that was in the news for that. The question is, how much truth is behind it? The news has all sorts of crazy, bizarre stuff. I sort of looked over some of the articles on it, but I didn't do a lot of reading on it. I will read more about it though and talk about it in my next video. I have been using that gel consistently for the past several years, and I lose almost no hair at all. in fact, I'm actually surprised that I don't lose more hair naturally, seeing as how you're supposed to shed so much a day. So, my anecdotal experience, which of course is just my own anecdotal experience, is that it has caused no hair loss whatsoever for me. And it hasn't caused any issues for any of my other curly haired friends. Which of course is a super small subset, and it doesn't mean that it doesn't for other people! But let me tell you, if it started making my hair fall out, every single person on the planet would be aware of that. Lol.

I am not a big fan of putting effort into my hair, and sometimes I think that I put more effort into it than I realize, But I also like a challenge, and having curly hair is a challenge. I want the best curls possible with the least amount of effort, and I think I do a pretty good job of achieving that. Lol

I finally am catching up on your video. I love, love, love your curls and am pretty sure my hair could resemble yours if I did the work. This video gave me anxiety! I have no idea where to start. I put a Curly Girl approved shampoo and conditioner in my Amazon cart, but don't have the money right this minute to buy it. I wash my hair every 1-2 days depending. I alternate between shampoos and conditioners every time... Though I looked and mine are full of sulfates and cones. I don't ever put any product in my hair. I never liked it feeling crunchy and didn't realize you're supposed to break that out!!! Not sure if you saw, but I posted on Facebook last week pics of me as a kid and teen with super curly hair. I blow-dried and straightened/curled it with an iron every single day from the age of like 20-33. Now that I'm a SAHM, I rarely blow dry it, but occasionally straighten or curl it with an iron. I straightened it today because I went to bed with wet hair (and no buff cause I don't own one and didn't know the purpose of them) and my hair was crazy this morning. I'm just overwhelmed and have no idea where to start!!! I agree, my hair is totally a dry frizzy mess and needs some moisture. Ahh!
