Well, I got up today, and the first thing I decided to do was work on the mowing some more. Yeah, ran out of battery power again, partly because it rained last night, and partly because as I went farther down the hill, the grass got thicker. So I’ve now filled up one of my big yard waste wheelie bins to the brim. Good thing I have a second one.
After I put the mower up, I started putzing around in the garage, and got to messing with the door opener again. I was stumped why when I unhooked pretty much everything, the gate was still making it run. I had a thought to unhook the wall button I hacked so my existing buttons either side of the door and the keyswitch outside could work the new door opener.
So until this particular generation of my door opener came out, every door opener could be run by crossing the two wires for the button together. This one doesn’t do that. The buttons send an encoded signal to the opener, so my extra buttons and keyswitch wouldn’t work natively with it. I tried the gate before I unhooked the button, the door opener ran. I unhooked the button, ran the gate a few times, nothing. So I solved one problem and created another. First world problem. I’ll deal with it later. This also let me hook up the other receiver to the gate that lets the HomeLink work with it. So I hooked it back up, and programmed the truck to the gate. Hallelujah, I don’t have to leave a remote in my truck anymore.
I then decided I was hungry and wanted comfort food, I took the crate out of the bed of the truck that the new trunk lid for the car came in, and went out to Sonic for a chili cheese dog and Route44 cherry limeade. That was totally worth it. When I got back, I intended to put the laundry up, since it finished drying this morning, but I got a text from a friend to get on a group video call. There went a couple of hours. I don’t mind. It’s the most socialization I get outside of work. It’s good to catch up weekly. Usual stuff, BS, bad jokes, conspiracy theories, stuff like that. They’re all back east, and I’m the only one on the west coast.
Once we finished our call, I went to feed the cat, and remembered he’s outta food. So I hopped in the car and went out for that. When I came back, I saw my neighbor had his car hood open, and what looked like a jumper hooked up, so I pulled in and knocked on the door. He said the battery was dead, so he grabbed his cables, I pulled up along side his car, got him started up, then came home. So I did my good deed for the day. Got my laundry put away, so I’m ready to go for tomorrow.
One thing I miss about school is summer. It would be nice if I could take 3 months off work every year. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job, but I need a vacation. A long one. I think the last vacation I took was 2014. I don’t really take that many days off work either. I’m lucky enough to not get sick very often. I think last year I missed 2 days. That’s kinda average. I try not to take time off if I can help it. I work with migraines - but there’s a limit to that, the flu, colds, back aches, sprained wrist - which is fun for winding springs, shoulder and neck problems, sprained knee… I just keep working. Probably not the best idea, but I’m stubborn. Eh, whatever.
I’m finding I like writing about my life on here. I know next to no one reads me, which is fine, but at least doing this, I don’t feel quite as isolated. would still much prefer to have someone else to share stories of the day with, and to go through the day with, for that matter, but this is an alright substitute. As I’ve said before, I am lonely, and that is a prison of my own making. But at least here, I can say what’s in my head, and not totally feel like I have no one to talk to. One of these days, things will change, but till then, it is what it is. I’ll live. I always do.
I’m gonna go watch another episode of Stargate Atlantis before I pass out. I really don’t wanna go to work tomorrow. I know. Whaaaaaa.
I hope when you go home tonight, Snow White kicks your arse.
