This came up on my FB today from four years ago.
More about what to do with the rest of my life.
This is a Mary Oliver poem.
I Have Decided
I have decided to find myself a home
in the mountains, somewhere high up
where one learns to live peacefully in
the cold and the silence. It’s said that
in such a place certain revelations may
be discovered. That what the spirit
reaches for may actually be felt, if not
exactly understood. Slowly, no doubt. I’m
not talking about a vacation.
Of course, at the same time, I mean to
stay exactly where I am.
Are you following me?

I like the way she surprised the lazy reader...me...with the ending. Made it a poem of importance. I just actually, not lying, thinking of what if I let my son live here this summer and I moved to the beach for the entire summer.
But I won't. I'd be worried about using funds that I'd need later in my life.

I was way off the mark - I thought she was talking about dying!

I think it was retirement.... which is a bit of a sticky subject too. Come with me, but stay where you are too.

Had you met Mary Oliver, I believe the two of you would have liked each other.

Did you meet her?
It would be nice if we could meet.

I think I have been places when she was there but no...she was Unitarian, so I know people who met her. She wrote these beloved thoughtful poems but was very strong, practical and a little eccentric.

I love her poetry.

Solitude reduces stress and encourages thinking.
