The rock climber: “I can’t hold on much longer!”
The cancer patient: “I can’t hold on much longer!”
The mother in labor: “I can’t hold on much longer!”
I can’t hold on much longer
It’s like sorrow has taken a bottle of ink and poured it over my heart
It’s spreading
Spreading fast
And I can’t take it much longer
I can’t fake it much longer
But no one takes me seriously
I’m on the edge of a cliff
At the end of an illness
On the verge of pain and death
I don’t know how much longer I have to live
But I don’t get a hospital bed
Or a harness to hold onto
I just have myself
And not for much longer
I can’t hold on much longer
