Kudos in These Foolish Things

So in my last entry I was telling you that I needed to get a huge report in to my boss so he could pick and choose from it what he wanted to send to the exec team as a status on all of my projects. It took me several days and many edits to get it complete - it was a compilation of sales results, analysis, strategy, execution, marketing efforts and future development of my categories of business - 31 pages of stuff!

I’m thrilled to report to you that he took a portion of my report and emailed it to many on the exec team (copying me and the CEO), telling them that it was an end-year recap that I had created - that there was information in there for the team - and then…that he wanted to recognize me as a passionate advocate for the program and yada yada.

I mean… it’s sad to say because it is such a rare occurrence, but I LIVE for kudos. And I got them yesterday.

THANK YOU, thank you!

Of course, it doesn’t mean I’ve gotten a promotion or anything, but lord, I’ll take it right now. I needed it and I’m going to bask in it for a while.

And of course, it’s the busiest, craziest time of the year (prepping for huge trade show in February means a big sales meeting in January, which equals ALL THE WORK for me). I have been contemplating working over the weekend - even though I can’t because it’s my dad’s birthday and I’m going to celebrate with him. Perhaps next weekend…

The exciting thing is that I’ve decided to tack on a couple of days of vacation after the big trade show in February to head down to Miami and spend a long weekend there. I’ve invited a work friend who may or may not join me for a couple of days. Either way I’m fine with it.

You know I’m not a beach person (though I love Miami Beach), so I’m not staying directly on the beach. I’ll be a couple of blocks away. And my plan is to visit many of the places I normally don’t see when I go to Miami: the Design District, Little Havana, the museums, the shopping areas, and of course, take in all the Art Deco on long walks, and then find some amazing dining experiences.

I’m going to stay at the hipsterish Freehand Miami, which I’ve visited before with [Elaine Benes] a couple of years ago when we took a long weekend there and it was fun and funky. I’ve booked a private King Suite, so there’s room to spread out even though it’s also a hostel. Crowd should be interesting!

So yeah, something to look forward to - even if it’s only a few days. I need to plan all my vacations this year kind of early since I lost about seven vacation days in 2020 due to several issues… but the thing is, I want to make sure I take all my days before it gets close to the end of the year because that’s the busy time around here.

And aha! [Adriana Mole] just posted on my FB wall about coming to San Francisco this year to check out a champagne-centric new restaurant! I may just plan another West Coast adventure, AMo! Perfect!

I like the idea of sticking close to home again this year and not venturing out of the country, though Canada could be the exception IF I were to go anywhere needing a passport. There’s PLENTY to see on this continent, you know?

Okay all, so much excitement in coming months, but right now I must focus on the task at hand: getting shit done and prepping for sales meeting. That way I can get to the fun afterwards!

Happy Friday!

Kudos/praise are currency for me; I live for them too! Congrats! I've never been to Miami but it's high on my list just for scenery, design, and food. SF is amazing; have you been? We went twice and stayed with Open Diary friends (and hung out with [Adriana Mole] too, of course)!

Ginger Snap pandora ⋅ January 11, 2020

Yes, I have been to SF many times. In fact, one of my favorite trips is SF and then Napa/Sonoma - used to go annually, but I haven't been in several years. I think I'll do that this year.

Yeah, praise IS currency. I agree 100%.

Knowing that we've done something right, and better than right- GOOD is an important wellspring of joy for many. It's always great to know that you're doing a good job so glad that you got that!

Thank you - I am too. It means soooooo much!

Miami! Finally some well deserved Kudos.

Yes and YES!!

Whoop! Go you! When I'm in Florida I usually stay in Hollywood cause it's close to the football stadium! Then I hang out in Ft Lauderdale because it's cheaper to Uber there from Hollywood than to stay! 🤣 Xx

Ginger Snap Complicated Disaster ⋅ January 11, 2020

Ah yes. I like Ft. Lauderdale as well, but I adore all of the Art Deco vibe in Miami. It's expensive, but eh...what are ya gonna do.

Complicated Disaster Ginger Snap ⋅ January 11, 2020

I haven't been to Miami for years. It was always too trendy for me! lol xx

Phade January 10, 2020

I love Freehand. Though I've only been to the one in Chicago and it's always a good time. Always wanted to check it out in Miami.

Ginger Snap Phade ⋅ January 11, 2020

The Miami one is fun and funky. Elaine and I had a good time there, though it was quiet when we went during an afternoon. I'm interested to see how the crowds are on Friday and Saturday nights!

Elaine Benes January 10, 2020

You will have such a great time in Miami. Our drinks at the Freehand a couple years ago were delish and fun!

Ginger Snap Elaine Benes ⋅ January 10, 2020

Yes! That was such a fun trip...but I also remember how expensive the champagne was everywhere we went...so I got a mini fridge for the bubbles too!

I'm only a beach person if the beach in question happens to be situated along the ruggedly beautiful Oregon coast. I will also make an exception for the flat-but-excellent stretch of sand along Washington's Long Beach peninsula.

It’s so validating to see your hard work acknowledged and appreciated. You go girl!!!

Ginger Snap IpsoFacto ⋅ January 11, 2020

thank you!

Marg January 12, 2020

What a shame your hard work and dedication don’t get noted more regularly but then I suppose that makes it all the more fabulous when they do! :)

I love Miami ! Very envious!
