I was about to head out the door to go to work when I realized it’s only Saturday, and not Sunday. I would have been there an hour early. I could have slept in another hour! That’s how all over-the-place my head is these days haha. Geez. At least now I have an hour to write an entry.

Anyway I don’t think much exciting has been happening. The refit at work is looking good and coming along quite nicely. It could have obviously been done much better though. We badly need new freezers that don’t ice-up so much but they’ve kind of just decorated all around them and made their surroundings look ‘new’. We also badly need new RF units as using the old ones is like living in the 1990’s, and I swear I feel like I’m getting carpel tunnel trying to press the damn buttons on the old ones. There are some new ones but someone or a few people always stash them somewhere, when the department I’m in uses them the most. But anyway, first-world problems I guess.

I could hear Janet Jackson and the Black Eyed Peas from my apartment last night, as they were performing at the showgrounds and the sound carries over. It was mostly the cheering and Fatman Scoop MC’ing I could hear though. I read that Janet lip-sync’s her whole set, so I wasn’t too keen on paying money to hear “FATMAN SCOOP, BROOKYN CLAN” over and over and a prerecording of MJ’s sister. Might have been fun to see Fergie though. I hope she did her national anthem :P

I’ve decided to host a dinner again for myself on my birthday this year. I keep seeing this restaurant/bar on the side of a main road each time I go to Chermside and keep telling myself to check it out sometime, so I’ve decided to have it there. It’s been a few years since I had a birthday dinner, as I remember I was too sick one year, and I had the Shania Twain concert last year (I was sick at that too) and I just don’t think I wanted to bother one of the other years, as the memories from my one in 2015 popped up, so that was 4 years ago. Hard to believe I’ll be turning 36.
So I’ve decided to call it by eighteenth 18th birthday party. I’ve currently booked in for 15 people, and I’ve invited a bit less than 30. At one point I realized I was getting toward 40 people on the invite list, and had to cut it back unfortunately. Invitee’s are so hard to predict. I’m pretty sure last time, I invited 30 people, and 12 showed up, so I’m kinda going along those lines again. I only have “for-sures” in my close friend group of Moe, Ben, Luke, Rhys and Steve, so they’ll be there, but even so called best-friends like Vish are an unknown, as he has temple that night, although he did surprise me last time by telling me he wasn’t coming and then showed up. Then I’ve invited the ones who were there last time. I invited a few now-Sydney peeps too, such as Peeta and Petey. Reece has said he is coming, which is really sweet, considering I barely ever see the guy, but he might be hoping Sheldon attends again, who he had/has a crush on haha, but Sheldon has a boyfriend now. And Chris might come. Who knows. I think Chris comes in the hope there will be a hot twink there that I’ve invited haha.
I’m still not sure if he and Reece hooked up after my last birthday party, but I hope they did. I am still scouring the sites for that amateur porno. It was funny cos at my last dinner at Ze Pickle, Reece was crushing on Sheldon and Chris was crushing on Reece and Sheldon and Chris are friends from way back - oh, you gays!
But anyway, only Rhys has said he’s coming so far out of those guys, the others may have plans. It may just be the 7 of us, which is totally fine with me. But I think a table for 15 is playing it quite safe and I hardly expect everyone to be available or come to a restaurant on the northside on a Sunday evening. But, I’m not hosting it on a Saturday when people are doing their work Christmas parties and I have to work Sundays, fuck that. I have 3 ‘maybe’s so far, which I pretty much count as ‘no’s.
Anyway, it’s a big deal for me to host even my own birthday dinner, as I never organize anything.

Oh my friend Brent (who I went and saw on the Gold Coast on Tuesday) asked me for money yesterday. I felt very uncomfortable reading the message. And then I was umming and ahhing over for ages over whether to just help him out and just live with the burn if I got fucked over, like I did with my old landlord. People who earn WAY more than I do asking ME for money just blows my mind. They say the more you earn, the more you spend, and I guess it’s true.
I’m just so cautious with my income because I feel I have to be. What if I have a medical emergency? Anyway, I left it 24 hours and he apologized and said he felt bad for asking, and he got some from his parents. Turns out he felt bad because he’s asked his parents a few times already now. Meanwhile when I was over there, he’s showing off his huge new TV and living in a 2 bedroom, 2 level rental for $410 a week by himself, because he likes the space. I dunno, it just made me uncomfortable. I mean he obviously asked to borrow it and hopefully I’d be paid back for it, but who knows. It could just lead to shit and I’d rather just avoid it.
Do you guys lend money to your (long-term) friends? Do you even think about saying yes or no? I’m curious to know.

My friends don't ask me for money. Because they are my friends.

crunchie November 15, 2019

I’ve never had a friend ask to borrow money so I guess if one did I probably would lend it as it’s not something they usually ask so I wouldn’t be wary. Apparently the concert was without Fergie as she left the group years back :(

I stood next to Fergie on a patio at a club once when I stepped out for a smoke and I didn't even notice her. She had a hoodie on. Anyways, you should call your birthday your ANNUAL 18th birthday because... it's cuter lol.
When my friends ask to borrow money I get better friends. omg k! I felt like I was a sassy 18-year-old twink again for a moment. Money is a weird thing to add to a friendship. Good luck with dat

I only offer to lend my friends a few £ for a coffee or something if they don't have cash on them, because it does not matter if they pay me back, I'm not expecting it. But otherwise I try to avoid lending money like the plague. It just makes things more complicated.

Depends on the person, and the situation for me. I only lend money I am comfortable not getting back. I only lend money if someone is in a dire situation. And only if the person is generally very responsible, with their life choices.

I don't lend to friends and expect to get it back.. If I "lend" it I don't expect to get it back.

DE_nobelle November 18, 2019

UGH that makes me so uncomfortable... my friends do NOT ask me for money, thank GOD. It's not a position I'd like to be put in.

I like the 18th 18th birthday. haha. Might steal that for next year!

I was quite uncomfortable. Maybe if I were rich I'd feel better about it? But then I'd probs feel taken advantage of, ergh money sucks haha.
