His name is Jan Schlichtmann.

His father said he had spaniel eyes....

This takes almost an hour - but it might be worth it.

It related to my book A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr.

==========================================

The Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence

It’s worth listening to this version of the Sound Of Silence by David Draimen of Disturbed - https://youtu.be/u9Dg-g7t2l4 - very powerful.

I love that version !

It gave me chills when I first heard it!

Jinn Marg ⋅ November 12, 2019

It does..

Thank you so much for posting that video - it certainly was worth it! I had never heard of that guy and was very taken with his talk but especially his ‘message’ at the end - such a simple - but very effective one.

Thank you for watching it. I'm developing an interest in lawyers, the law, trials and stuff. It's such a complex, yet basic part of our society. I had read the book and I wanted to see what he looked like and more importantly what he sounded like. He sounded ordinary, yet special.

It’s got me interested in reading the book now as well - and also watching the film - although I know it probably won’t stay as true to what happened as the book.

Interesting. I never read that you listen to podcasts but this is my favorite one on the law...

You can listen online.

Ooh, I have one too!! What Trump can Teach us about Con Law https://trumpconlaw.com/

Bet they overlap a bit.

I'll second that. I love Trump Con Law. :)

Oh an I saw Simon and Garfunkel in a small circular venue in California when I was 13 or 14. They made quite an impression on me.

I've never read the lyrics of Sound of Silence. I have to read the lyrics to take them in. I can never figure them out from what the singer is saying. When they are written out there are times (many times) I don't understand them. This is an example of me not knowing for sure if I understand what the writer is saying. I have my theories but that is all.

Nine comments on this one so far. Ten I suppose with this one.

He is a dramatic speaker and a lawyer caught in a near impossible situation. This country seems to exist on exploitation and deceit :-( . It’s so disheartening .

Purple Dawn November 16, 2019

One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It was nice to read the lyrics.

Serin November 29, 2019

Aw, it erased my other note.

I was saying that I'd kept this open for a while so I wouldn't forget to listen and it was worth the effort. He's a good speaker, I'm guessing really effective in front of a judge

It's interesting - because he failed when he worked very hard (spent lots of his own money that wasn't recovered from the 'polluting companies'. ) and he seems to be a very talented and also a good man. We are used to success from those kinds of stories. Expert witnesses can really be attacked and what was certain becomes doubtful, especially to a jury. I lent the book (A Civil Action) to my builder son because I think there are edges in what he does in this book, and I'd think in your profession also.
