It's My Birthday, Bitches! in These Foolish Things

Greetings from a Starbucks somewhere in Las Vegas! I’m kind of mad because these dumb Starbucks in the casinos will take your money but they won’t let you redeem your rewards and any Starbucks fan knows that you get a free anything - like a supersized crazy pumpkin spice drink or whatever - on your birthday!

I am having THE BEST birthday celebration, y’all. [Athena] is here with me on this trip (not at Starbucks…I couldn’t sleep and had ants in my pants so I wandered out into the light of day) and we flew in yesterday in time to have a wonderful lunch on a patio in the gorgeous sunshine and then take a quick nap so we could stay up late with the young people and have an AMAZING dinner and then…go see the THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER!

Yes, we did.

I started an entry on the plane yesterday but didn’t get to post it so I broke my writing streak for October, but this is practice for NoJoMo anyway, so I don’t consider it a loss.

SexyPants took me to the airport. Here’s what I wrote about that on the plane yesterday:

On the plane bound for Vegas and OH what birthday celebration it’s already been!

I gotta say…I so wish SexyPants hadn’t been a cheater because he truly is the best guy I know and keeps me in stitches the whole time we’re together. And maybe things have changed with him, but I don’t know and I think it might hurt too much to find out, but I will tell you this:

He picked me up at 5am this morning in an Uber Black (the big, fancy one) just as happy as can be. He was even EARLY. I have always known I could count on him - he is super conscientious about getting places on time if not early.

So. Right. Uber Black to the airport and once we arrived he treated me to a Starbucks because the restaurant at the fancy pants hotel wasn’t open yet. We talked and talked and caught up on things and then the restaurant opened and we had breakfast (because we had to order something to eat in order to get mimosas) and mimosas!

We also figured out that our flights (mine to Vegas and his to Mexico City) were in the same concourse and only a few gates away from each other so we decided to go through security and see if we still had time to go to the airline lounge to get another mimosa.

We did! Security line was so short (couldn’t believe it!) and that gave us time to make it to the lounge and have another mimosa and more laughs. And then it was close to boarding time for both of us - we were boarding ONE minute apart! So we said our goodbyes with a huge hug and I thanked him for an awesome start to my birthday celebration and we went our separate ways.

I got to the gate in no time and quickly found [Athena] and we boarded the plane and here we are!

So yeah. It’s been amazing so far. And this is only the first leg. I know Vegas, you know? Like, I’ve been here millions of times. But today we get to see the amazing and breathtaking Grand Canyon and I’ve never been there before and I am bursting with excitement.

So with that, I’m gonna close so I can look at all of the birthday messages from Facebook.
