Home now. Loop de loop indeed. The last day was much like military maneuvers with daughter Margot, Zoe and friend Shyanne, Margot’s son Alex with his wife Chris and her brother, her daughter Kenzie, then G and I. We were a moving wad that jammed up traffic. Chris wanted to go home early because of a back ache. I was sorry as I will never get to know her unless I get to talk with her.

We started at the trolley stop at the old stadium. Margot and Zoe met us there with pillows, books, and all the things a modern teenager of 14 needs to survive. My scooter came out of the car, her things went in and we were off. Repeat every morning.

By the time we got to the convention center, we were allowed to pick up our C and S cards, (the S card lists the job we will be doing, and the C card is turned in to the supervisor at the job), and pick up our powerful rental scooters. Then we head off to work by ourselves. Everybody else snakes in long lines led by a person holding a sign that says something like “Volunteers heading to work.’

Every morning we were very warmly welcomed. Each publisher has a booth. Sony, Disney, et al….Each booth has a 8x10 listing their needs, and each booth has a list of artists who signed up to be interviewed. At the front of the booth are two chairs. One chair has the next person to be interviewed, and the other has someone like me who goes out into the rows of chairs and finds the next person to be interviewed. Three hours of this. I can only hope that everyone shows up.

Usually they are not major players, but often they bring a portfolio or laptop with a well done series….pencil, ink, and finished work with color. I feel very lucky that I get to see these works.

Ooooh...I didn't realize the art potential of Comic Con. You should definitely be showing your own drawings (digitally) when you get in those good conversations.
