RAD: Specs in These Foolish Things

Yesterday I was basking in the post-doctor sexy medicinal glow…but I’d also made some additional plans behind the scenes! Here’s my lunch date with Specs:

Name: Specs (you know, he’s got that bespectacled smart guy vibe)

Introduction Platform: Hinge. My second Hinge date.

Age: 42

Relationship Status: Divorced a couple of years. One kid - a boy who just turned 5.

Job: Medical equipment sales

Lives: Normally I wouldn’t go out with someone who lives so far away (the west side of a city about 30 miles west of my place), but because he travels locally to his customers and my office is closer to his place, we agreed to meet for lunch at a location very close to my office

Length of Date: 1 hour (lunch break)

We Did: Lunch

He Looked: Geeky cute. Thick framed glasses. Tall-ish (6’1” or 6’2”). He was wearing medical scrubs because the equipment he sells many times requires him to be in the operating room when surgeons are using them (is anybody sensing a theme here??).

I Looked: Hi/Lo work clothes - wore denim yesterday with a tank and covered with a cute striped duster, nude colored Louboutins (to add a touch of luxe). Hair down and stick straight. I’d call it Sophisticated Casual.

Convo: Smart and light. His profile said he loves “super smart women”. Now. I’m not saying I’m super smart by any means, but I can now talk some medical jargon like the best of ‘em!! And that was kind of fun. We talked about places we’ve lived and what we’ve done and travels and such…you know, the usual. We talked about work stuff and how he golfs several times a week. And then we got personal and serious and talked mortality. You know, the tough stuff - a seriously alcoholic best friend of his had died the day before. I don’t think he realized just how upset he was until we both noticed that he didn’t eat any of his lunch.

High Point: He said he really liked me - that this Hinge/dating stuff is sometimes a real bummer, but that he was enjoying himself.

Low Point: That he got pretty mellow and sad at the end thinking about his friend.

How It Ended: I finished lunch, he didn’t (see above), but we both walked out of the restaurant, hugged, he said he’d love to do it again, and went our separate ways to our cars.

Chances Are: Not sure. I see going on another lunch date, maybe. But going out in the evening for drinks is probably not gonna happen seeing as we live probably an hour and 15 minutes apart.

Date Rating: B-
