Quit in Stuff

I know I’ve got some catching up to do, but every time I’ve wanted to come here and write it’s felt more like a chore than a good thing, so I’ve talked myself out of doing it. I certainly know all the benefits of processing my thoughts like this, but I sometimes struggle with really feeling a desire to do it.

I guess going back chronologically, the first thing I’d really like to write about is that Megan talked Olsen into quitting her job. I was furious about it at the time. I’m slightly less angry about it now.

The short version of the story is that Olsen was getting more and more opportunities to work at her company’s location in Maine, which involved her spending the night up there. Megan hated it when Olsen would be gone for longer periods of time like that. So she told Olsen that she didn’t need to work.

Olsen said she wanted to work. Not necessarily because she enjoyed working but because she wanted to contribute. But Megan kept insisting she would be happy to support both of them. This went on for a while, and every time Olsen would have a stretch of time working in Maine, Megan would bring it up a little more forcefully.

I think finally Olsen just got tired of fighting about it, and she quit her job. I suppose there could be a positive spin on this in the sense that now the two of them have a lot of free time to do stuff together. But I really don’t like the idea that she was talked out of a job she wanted. It feels weirdly manipulative, like Megan was just going to get her way no matter what.
