Client #408t asks:
“Is this enough to warm up before weightlifting? Hi, before I do weightlifting I do 20 push ups is this enough or should I do some stretches as well after? Is this enough to warm up?”

Stretches to me are a really overlooked and underused warmup. They help prevent injuries before you start lifting because weightlifting at its core is tearing muscle fibers to make them grow back stronger. A lot of people start with a brief bit of cardio to get the body warm and I’d say this is one of the better ways to do it. Cardio, stretching and then once you get into your exercise routine lift lighter for a set and work up to heavier weights to get the muscles you are targeting warmed up and ready for the heavier lifts.
Don’t just throw a ton of weight on the bar and try to lift it cold ( without warming up first) please. That’s an injury waiting to happen.

But in addition to taking the time to warm up make sure you take a cool down period after lifting . Stretch use a foam roller if they have one where you workout and get protein either food or a shake into your system after your workout.
