Something made me genuinely smile so hard yesterday.
Let’s back up to the Oscar party a week from last Sunday. There were some people there I hadn’t seen in a long, long time. One person in particular I used to joke with as we have some mutual friends in common (including CC, who was a dick to me - but this guy wasn’t!).
Anyway, I saw him and many memories came flooding back to me, including the first time I met him while sitting at the chef’s table of one of my favorite restaurants outside of the city.
Long story, but years ago my friend Cindy and I used to frequent this restaurant that’s halfway between where I used to work and downtown where I live…and this restaurant just happened to be owned by the most eligible bachelor chef in town. And one night we decided to have dinner there and were seated at the chef’s table next to Mike (the guy at the party) and one of his friends. We chatted and drank some wine together and as it turns out, Mike is good friends with the chef/owner!
At that time, said chef/owner had a girlfriend.
Flash forward to Oscar party, and I was joking around when I asked Mike about Chef. I asked if he was single yet….and Mike said YES, he is single now! So I again joked and said, “Set me up with him!”
So he DID.
You guys. Chef texted me yesterday and we chatted for quite a while and then he asked me to brunch on Sunday!
I was thrilled - until he asked me to pick the place! Such pressure! This guy is pretty famous in this city and I hemmed and hawed a little…and then he suggested only the most AMAZING restaurant in town! And I was like, oh hell YES!
I’m having brunch with someone I’ve fangirled and had a crush on for like 10 years on Sunday!
These were our last two texts to each other yesterday!
So excited.
