I've been having such a saga with my building insurance.
When I had that contract on my house, I tried to cancel my building/contents insurance effective from 26th Feb (settlement date). Then the contract fell through, and because I now needed the insurance to continue, I called the insurance place to have it reinstated. They told me they couldn't do that and I kept getting a run around. From person to person, and even company to company. Nobody seemed to understand I just wanted to leave the insurance going...
They told me they couldn't reverse the cancellation..
What I had completely forgotten.....
was that I had actually cancelled this policy last year!!!
I used this company because it was the one the mortgage broker I'd gone through used, but after I'd been in the house a few months, I transferred to my regular insurer... but I forgot I'd done this!!
So I'm jumping up and down, wailing like a mad women today.. i was on the phone all through my breaks ...stressing myself to tears and then finally, I get an email from one of the people at the insurance company saying I'd cancelled in Feb 2013 and they can't reinstate when it's over 12 months.
OH MY GOD.. 2013....
And then of course, I remembered.. and I felt* SO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
He said they were surprised when they recently received my cancellation notice as they showed it had already been cancelled for 12 months....
I am so blonde...
Anyhow, I couldn't even tell them i realised what had happened so I just said, leave it with me and was left very red faced!!!
From their perspective, they received a cancellation notice for a policy that had cancelled in Feb 2013, and had a ranting client who wanted to reinstate it after it had been cancelled 12 months!! They must have thought I was crazy!!! But I wonder why it took three days and about 4 people to tell me that my original cancellation had gone through in 2013!
Anyhow.. glad that's over...

Well, the courteous thing to do would have been to explain to you why the first time...
