I’ve told everyone that I want to start a new tradition of a family meal every Sunday. I know “tradition” isn’t the right word. But I’d like it to be something we do regularly and maybe at some point we’ll be able to call it a tradition. All of us have lives that pull us in various directions and I would like there to be at least one point every week where all five of us (because of course I’m including Megan) get together. I think I need this for my own sense of happiness, but after that whole experience with Harrison that I wrote about in my last entry, I think we ALL need it.
It will also be a good thing for me to feel like I’m being forced to prepare a proper home-cooked meal each week rather than half-assing it like I do most of the time these days. There’s something about holding myself accountable like this since it was my idea in the first place.
But I don’t want this to start feeling like a chore. And I hope it doesn’t feel that way for the kids. I want it to be something we all look forward to.
Entirely unrelated, Olsen cut off all her hair. She went from long straight hair down to about the center of her back to having almost what would be considered a man’s haircut. She said she made the decision and then she and Megan went to see Megan’s normal stylist. Once they got there and told the stylist what they wanted, she instructed Olsen to sit quietly in the back for a while and think about it and make sure this is what she wanted.
According to Olsen, she said, “Hair will always grow back, but that much hair will take years to grow back and you need to make sure this is really what you want to do.”
She went ahead with it. I think she looks great.

I frequently contemplate cutting my hair, but it took me sooooooo many years to get my hair as long as it is! Everytime I consider it, I end up not doing it. Glad she was brave enough to go through with it!
I think a weekly family dinner is great idea!
