What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about helping people when I can. I have lived through so much, that I have learned how to work with them and turn them into lessons of strength.

I have lived through being homeless, being sexually assaulted as a child, raped as an adult…I have lived through being physically assaulted by my 2nd husband. I have lost a child. I have worked through people telling me I wouldn’t make anything of myself because I am an Indigenous woman from a reservation.

I am the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, and those soldiers not only went through hell in war, but they are the only Veterans who went through absolute hell when they came home. There were no parades for them. They were treated like evil incarnate.

But my Dad rose above it all. I learned how to overcome the 20-year head start that other people got and I succeeded.

So, those who need the help, those who accept the help…I help them. I’m not just talking about throwing change into a cup. I’m talking about finding the resources to help that person. I help fundraise, I was a peer support specialist with a mental health center.

I believe that everyone needs help at some point. As someone who has been at the lowest point, I figure I am one of the best people to be a guide.

Even though I was not even close to being around when our people came home from Vietnam, I still get sick to my stomach when I think about how they were treated. It is sickening and I hope the people that participated in those acts have a hard time living with it now. They probably dont, but I hope they do.

It’s always good to use what you’ve had to deal with as a window to help others. I hope they appreciate you.
