"YOU WERE NEVER MY OXYGEN" in "RESTLESS: POETICALLY-SPEAKING"

They say falling in love is like this:
You think of them and cannot breathe
A day without them, what you’d rather miss
Love and longing, what you continue to bleed

They say heartache means to suffocate
Where love used to be is now a void
Why do I have to suffer that way?
I still want to live for another day

You were never my oxygen
I’ve always been awake
aware of the situation
That vacant space feels picture-perfect

With or without you,
I’m still alive
You know it’s true
Don’t look too surprised
