17 weeks in Baby Stuff

I had an OB appointment today and it went well. We recorded baby's heartbeat, it was 145 bpm. We will be making a bear for him/her after we find out the sex, like we did with Cannon (and he loves his heartbeat bear)! The ultrasound is scheduled for March 5th. I can't wait!

I think I've been feeling small movements since last week but since I'm not sure, I haven't written about it. hopefully the movement will become more regular and easier to feel soon.

We have names picked out, finally! Wyatt Jacob and Lorelei Hazel. Hazel was Jacob's great grandma's name.

I've been sick with a cold and thank goodness Jacob has had snow days since Tuesday. and i had a snow day from school but my teacher still held a mandatory online video session... ugh. it snowed over a foot here! and we are supposed to get more snow this Saturday... I'm more than ready for spring, and Cannon is too. He is bored in the house all day. He is an outside kid.

I took Cannon to his pediatrician appointment for his 18-month check-up and everything is good with him except for his speech development, which I was already concerned with. He scored in the lower normal range, but they like kids to have 25 words by 18 months. Cannon can say a few words, but he doesn't use words to communicate with us. He points at things and says "mm?". We talk to him a lot and read to him so I'm surprised he isn't saying more things, but we will just keep trying. he will talk eventually! If not, I will call the developmental lady and see some specialists. He understands the things we say and can follow directions (although most of the time he chooses not to) so they aren't too concerned yet.

I think he is stubborn. :P

I LOVE the name Lorelei ... Gilmore Girls is my favorite show. :-) That was one of our girl names but it seems I will only be having boys. LOL I can't wait until you find out the sex! Do you have a feeling one way or another? Don't worry too much about Cannon's speech. He'll be talking your ear off before you know it and you'll long for the silence. Boys usually delay their speech but thrive physically. Boys, stubborn?! Nooooo way! (sarcasm) wink

My little guy was still pointing and grunting at 18 months but is way ahead of the curve now at 30mo. No need to panic.

I'm still not sure how to really get updates for my bookmarks yet - it didn't show me you updated! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling the baby move. Those first movements are always so subtle and confusing! Xander's doctor wants him to see a specialist because at his 15 month checkup he wasn't talking or walking. He started walking about a month ago, but he still doesn't communicate with words. He uses gestures, and he's a lot like Cannon - he understands perfectly fine, but he doesn't use words. He says "Mommom/Mama" "Dada" "Ew" "No" and "Ditty" (for Kitty). He didn't say any of that except "Mama" at 15 months though. I don't think anything is wrong with him, but I would feel a lot better KNOWING nothing is wrong. Florida offers a program called Early Steps that offers free services/evaluations to children who may have a problem. Seeing as it's free, I really see no excuse not to get him checked.

I'm sure our boys are both just fine :)

yay so exciting you have your appt date!
My husband loved the name Wyatt but friends of ours used it and I love the name Hazel! It's one of my favs for a girl but don't thin it will be the winner because my husband is picky.
I wouldn't worry about the speech just yet either, kids develop so differently and I'm sure he will be talking up a storm in no time! They also say sounds that he makes over and over for the same thing like say "buby" for cup, count as words even though they aren't the correct word. So maybe he has more than you think?

He doesn't have words for any objects. :( He says "please" when he wants something, but that's the only communicative sort of word he knows. He calls us mommy and daddy, and he knows some other words like "duck" and "yay" and "uh oh" but he never picks up his toy duck and says "duck." I'm sure it'll get better though!

well it sounds like he knows quite a few words! I didn't think Quinn knew that many but when I started counting I realized he knew more than I thought! I've also heard animal sounds count and Quinn can do at least 10 of those yet he doesn't say the actual animal name! I definitely think your little man is doing just fine :)
