On the plane heading back from my trip with [EB] to Miami. What a fabulous weekend. I’m really happy that Elaine invited me to join her - we travel well together. In fact, this was our third trip we’ve taken together in the last couple of years, and we’re already trying to think of where we should go next!
So, last I wrote I was on the plane early, early, EARLY Friday morning (5:30am fight) and sitting next to these cute (young) men who were on their way to some kind of work function that they confessed was really just going to be a drunk party fest…at the Fountainbleu, which is where [EB] and I had dinner reservations on Saturday night! Figured we’d probably run into some wild young ‘uns on that night.
Anyway. [EB] had gotten to Miami a little before me and she was kind enough to wait for me at the airport and meet me at my gate. Was nice to see her there waiting. We said our hellos and took Lyft to the W South Beach where we checked in and they gave us a glass of sangria upon arrival! Party started!
Room wasn’t ready yet, and we were hungry for breakfast, so we did a quick change in the dressing room and headed over to the pool for some brekkie and bevvies. It was a gorgeous pool area, and even though I’m not really a “pool girl” we found ourselves there for a good portion of the weekend. It was kind of like a home base for us.
After a beautiful, sun-shiny breakfast and a bit of discussion about what our plans were for the weekend, we were paged as our room was ready. Elaine had booked the room with her points (a perk of doing lots of travel), and we didn’t have super high expectations of getting something spectacular because, well…free, you know? HOWEVER, we were beyond blown away when we got to the room.
It was our own stunning bachelorette suite - complete with full bar, sitting area, gigantic bathroom, and an oceanfront balcony!! It really was a gorgeous, gorgeous room and we were thrilled.
Once we got unpacked and kind of settled in, we decided to take a walk on the beach.
Didn’t walk super far because I’d say I’m also not a “beach girl” as I have trouble walking in the sand. It wore me OUT, though I got some great photos of one of the lifeguard stands and stuck my tootsies in the Atlantic for about .573 seconds.
Once that adventure was over, we headed over to a place called Broken Shaker, a total hipster bar in the courtyard of this super funky hotel called Freehand Miami. Loved the backyard patio feel in an overgrown jungle kind of fashion. It was a gritty little place with all kinds of artsy touches (like upcycled furniture and colorful flower planters) and a sexy young bartender with lots of facial hair. He gave us some drink recommendations and made my heart flutter just a bit, which reminds me that Bachelor Party Marty was sexting me/us (long story) most of the weekend, complete with photos and porn.
The gist of it was that [EB] and I had teased BPM with a couple of texts before the trip, saying he should come meet us in Miami…though we didn’t really mean it. I suppose the thought of having two women at once blew his young mind and I’ve never received so many texts from him in such a short span of time. Bottom line is, all I had to do was tell him that we were serious about the whole thing and he would have DRIVEN to Miami to have us both. I had to kind of back down on the teasing when I realized that he was about to make it happen!
Anyway, we sat in the courtyard and had a few cocktails and laughed about BMP and had some fun drinks with the cute bartender/waiter for a while and then decided that we should go back to the hotel to think about getting ready for dinner and perhaps where we might go afterwards.
Dinner was at the beautiful, artsy Delano Hotel at this Argentinean restaurant which had us reminiscing about our trip over the holidays. What fun! Love that we have lots of great memories from that trip. We ended up splitting a bunch of appetizers and a big salad - but the weird thing was that it was so dark on the patio where we were sitting that we couldn’t figure out what we were really eating!
It was during our dinner talk that we decided we would play a game that night - have a little contest to see who could talk to the most people (read: MEN). We both decided to use icebreaker questions to start a conversation. The person who got responses from the most men at the end of the night would win…bragging rights, I guess!
We decided that my question(s) would be, “Do you have a dog?” And if they said yes, my follow up would be, “Where do they sleep? On the bed with you or somewhere else?”
These are actually perfect questions, because, (A) so many people have dogs, and (B) so many people love to talk about them, and ( C), it’s actually pertinent to my WORK! Love that I could kill so many birds with one stone and possibly meet some great people.
Elaine’s question was, “Have you ever been to Argentina?” Which had the potential to spark TONS of conversation as well.
We were pleased with our plan.
But the night was still young, so before we stepped out to the Delano’s poolside bar (which is a hotspot to see and be seen), we decided to hit the lobby bar - and scored BIG when Kostas, the GORGEOUS bartender not only told me that he has a dog, but that he has a “baby dog” (a tiny little Yorkie who is only like three months old) and pulled out his phone to show us her baby pictures…and then he proceeded to give us lots of drinks, even though I was drinking club soda because the drink I’d had before hitting the lobby bar was insanely strong (some kind of tequila drink).
Uh oh, guys. I’m going to have to close this entry early because my computer is running out of batteries and I think we’ll be landing in a little bit.
MUCH more to follow including meeting our CRAZY benefactors for the night…and WHO WON THE CONTEST!!
Until then,
xox,
GS
