My B'Day Celebration --Part I 10/7/2003
My friend Toni and I had planned a birthday dinner at this cute Mexican restaurant on Wednesday night, the day before my birthday. Toni told me that when she spoke to the girls, everyone seemed like they wanted to go. Wednesday rolled around and I started to get phone calls and IMs from everyone telling me that they couldn't go because they had tests tomorrow. I had a test too, but since Toni told me that everyone wanted to go out on Wednesday night I figured "Fuck it." I mean, I can pick up my grade, but I only turn 21 once. So in the end, like an ass, I canceled the dinner and put it off for a night. I felt so depressed...
My last birthday was during pledging, so I couldn't celebrate with my friends at the time because I was too busy being the sorority's bitch. My 19th birthday sucked worse because it was on a Tuesday, I had a chemistry test the next day, and didn't really have any close friends to celebrate it with. To top everything off, Wednesday was my first day volunteering at the orthopedic ward at the local hospital, which SUCKED...I thought I'd be reading to old people after their surgeries or something...but yea...they basically made me a chambermaid, throwing out people's garbage and making old people's beds, while they changed their cholostamy (spelling?) bags right in front of me...I thought I was going to be sick....
To top everything off, I got into my first fight with Big. She, Maria, and Steph had been using the living room and smoking room as their storage area. I'd been asking them to please move their boxes down to the basement since we moved in in June. My room doesn't have cable hook-up so I had to plug my t.v. into the living room...but now I wasn't able to watch my t.v., which I was paying $40/month for because all the boxes were in the way. So finally I called our grumpy landlord and asked him to unlock the basement so I could carry down their boxes down to the basement. After a sweaty hour, I was finished and then went back into my room to find all the IMs of people telling me they couldn't be there that night. Big comes home and knocks on my door and yells at me that I accidentally moved one of her boxes to the basement that she wanted to keep in the apartment with her. So we spent the rest of the night being mean to each other. I ended up crying.
Most of Thursday, my birthday, I spent either in class, or taking a stats test. I get into the apartment, and I hear Big in her room, but she didn't come out when I came into the apartment. I was in my room, about to break down and cry when she comes in with three birthday balloons and a card. Wed made up and everything was all good. Dinner that night was awesome. Seven out of my ten pledge sisters were there, plus Danielle, Tanya, and Big. Erin bought me this massive strawberry margarita and then I had a tequila rose, which is my new favorite drink. We acted silly the entire night, being obnoxious, and talking about sex, blow jobs, and belly dancing. Nicole threw a lemon at Christine and Lisa stuffed a french fry in Christine’s ear. There were two old couples next to us that I felt kind of bad for…Anyway, the staff of the restaurant came out singing this Mexican version of a Happy Birthday song to me and gave me free ice cream…I was so happy; free ice cream, great food, some fruity alcoholic drinks that I was finally legally allowed to order, and my friends.
We left the restaurant to go and get ready for the mixer with the rugby team. Nicole drove me back since I was definitely buzzing. Then me, Danielle, Tanya, Nicole, and Big pregamed before going out. The mixer was a bit odd…the rugby boys are definitely a little crazy. One guy randomly started stripping and was just kinda standing there with his hands over his balls while the rest of the team tried to make him give them high-fives. The another guy (I’m blushing horrendously as I type this) stripped and had a flaming piece of cardboard stuck in his ass and was thrown over the shoulder of another rugby player (who was dressed) and was carried around the house. The rest of the party was relatively tame; my friends played drinking games while I watched. The punch was terrible because the boys made it too strong so my buzz wore off towards the end of the night.
Big, my pledge sisters, and I left the party to go downtown. I tried talking to this South African rugby boy, but he wasn’t too keen on me. So since each of my pledge sisters had a boy to cuddle with, I left with Big and Sara when Sara announced she had to go back to her apartment and get her ID. Big and I lost Sara once we got into the club but we found my non-Greek friends Heather and Meredith (aka Merri). We basically all got on stage and danced for the rest of the night.
