Stupid Boys... 12/22/2002

I sometimes honestly wish I was a lesbian, so that way I wouldn't have to deal with boys. I hate them. Recently I started liking this guy named Jason, who recently just got into a fraternity. He and I pledged at the same time; it's how I met him.

When I was pledging, his fraternity had a mixer with my sorority. When you're pledging, you have to serenade the fraternity/sorority that you're mixing with. My pledge sisters and I made up this really awesome dance to a Britney Spears song. e also had to change the words to make it a song about our sorority. SUCH a good song and dance routine...Anyway, after we were done, the boys had to also do a serenade. The boys have it worse than we do though...the last mixer that we had gone to, the fraternity's pledges were forced to wear diapers and were screamed at by the brother in front of everybody. After me and my pledge sisters left, the brothers made the pledges chug maple syrup, which the boys later threw up in front of everybody...I would never join a frat if I were a boy...

Anyway, this fraternity was much nicer to its pledges. They had the boys dressed up as Greek gods, with togas and wreaths on their heads...it was very cute. Anyway, so the boys did this awesome song, and then this one guy starts singing a solo part. I love boys with singing voices, it just drives me crazy. Have you ever just looked at someone and just lost your breath for a second? Well, that's how I felt when I looked at Jay. I just started liking him from that point on. We never really saw each other after that because we were pledging and we were on social probation. Social probation is when you're not allowed to talk to anyone outside of your fraternity or sorority. I broke that rule constantly. But at mixers its strictly enforced because you have you entire frat/sorority watching you.

So after I crossed (got into the sorority) I was talking to my friend and pledge sister Corinne about how much I still liked Jay. Some of the girls ion my sorority who were sitting at the table with us overheard.

**Quick sidebar-each semester a sorority has a pledge class. A pledge class is a group of girls who pledge for a sorority. Each pledge class has a different name; the names go in order, according to the Greek alphabet. The pledge class before me are called the Thetas, so my pledge class is called the Iotas. (Or the Iotas pledge class, whichever). Anyway, the Thetas were the worst hazers in my sorority. I hate almost every girl who's a Theta. As far as I'm concerned, they are members in my sorority, but they will never be my sisters.

So anyway, the Thetas overheard my conversation with Corinne and were like "You like Jay?? Oh, well, we know Jay, we're friends with him." Well, if he's friends with you guys, then he's obviously a dick. One of the Thetas named Stephanie offered to 'put in a good word for me.' The girl doesn't even like me, what could she say to Jay that would be flattering?? Anyway, it made me very uncomfortable that they now knew who I liked, especially if he was one of their friends.

So I went to Cheers that night with my big, who I'll call Ivory, and her best friend Tanya. (When a girl pledges, she's assigned an older sorority sister to be her 'Big' or Big Sister. The Big watches over the Little and makes sure that the Little doesn't go too crazy from pledging. I love Ivory...I'm living with her next year actually. She's becomiing one of my best friends. Anyway, so we found out that Jay and his entire fraternity are coming to Cheers that night. Two of the Thetas that I actually like, had found out from their big-mouthed pledge sisters that I liked Jay. They dragged me over to Jay and his fraternity brothers and kind of made me talk to him. I was actually I lot calmer than I thought I'd be talking to him. Maybe its also because I had had seven shots of tequila before I came to the bar, but that's besides the point...

I started talking to Jay sporadicaly throughout the night. His brothers all knew that I liked Jay as well, so I'm assuming Jay knew. Greek life is a lot lot high school in some ways...everyone knows everyone else, and everyone else's business. So yeah, my Ivory, Tanya, and some of the fraternity brothers were all dancing by the stage when Jay come by. He was dancing with me and everyone else for awhile and then he just started dancing with me. When he's drunk, he's a fantastic dancer. :o) That night was definitely up there with my top favorite five memories at Binghamton. The boys in his frat were hollering, my girls were cheering...it was such a fantastic feeling.
