Iota 10/1/2002

I went home last weekend. Going home is probably better for me than any medication a doctor could prescribe. I told my mom what ws going on, and she agreed that I need to see someone for my depression and low self-esteem issues. She was so sweet and understanding about it that I felt bad that she has a train-wreck of a daughter. My dad was cool with everything as well. He said he thought it was a great decision, and I should've seen someone years ago, which I agree with too. So I feel better.

Becca's dating a guy named James, who I adore. She broke up with Kyle awhile ago, which I was ecstatic about, since he seemed to really dislike my whole family. It was just causing problems because he was so possessive. James is so nice though and has a general interest in making us like him.

This week, I was accepted into two sororities. One was my sister's sorority, which I will call Iota, and the other I will call Sigma. Personally, I loved Sigma, and felt really close to the girls in Sigma. My sister warned me that the reason why Sigma is so small is because they beat the hell out of their pledges. So I decided to listen to other people, for once, and declined Sigma's bid.

Tonight was the first night of pledging. We went to Hillside, a bunch of on-campus apartments, and they brought us into the living room and gave us this really cool ceremony. It was dark in the room, and only purple candles were lit. When it was over, we turned around and met our Delta Diamonds. Delta Diamonds are basically supposed to be our 'big sister' until we're officially given a big sister. Mine was some random girl named Marcia. Never seen her before in my life. She gave me a bear with a bottle of purple nail polish (purple is Iota's color) and a purple pen to write in my pledge notebook.

My pledge class is twelve other girls, which is fairly large for a pledge class. So far, I really like the other girls, but then again, Melissa, Kira, and Jan seemed really awesome too in the beginning. Everyone seemed to have pledged with a friend or someone they knew, so I felt a bit left out. I met this girl named Tania, who's actually from Israel. She's in the neighboring dorm to mine too.

Christina seems pretty cool. She's just one of those hip, laid back people. She's pledging with Samara and Lauren.

I'm deciding on whether or not I like Samara. Or I should I say, I'm deciding on whether or not she likes me.

I didn't like Lauren at first. She has the very long blonde hair, red lipstick, perfect body, massive chest, and just the stereotypical sorority girl. However, she seems really friendly, and she's been elected as our 'Sunshine.' Her job is basically to keep her other pledgees motivated.

Toni is cool. She's an RA and a junior. She's kind of bossy, so she was elected to be our President of the pledges. I just don't like taking orders....

Lisa's nice. She Rushed last semester, and got a bid, but deferred it to this semester. I like her a lot. She's very organized, and bossy, but very nice.

Brianna is my RA's girlfriend, so she already knew me. She's just very sweet and laid-back.

Aimee and Ashley are twins. Not really, but they act like it. I met Aimee at the first Rush event. They're both tall, slender, and blonde and kind of talk the same...it's a little scary. Seriously though, they seem very sweet too.

Erin and Corinne are just funny. They're really good friends, and the both of them are kind of spacey and ditzey. But not in a bad way....it's just entertaining.

I don't remember too much about Nicole and Antonia. I'll make a point to talk to them tomorrow. So far though, I really like Tania.

Sooooo...yeah. After the ceremony, we trekked back over to the student union to get stuff. We got a purple handkerchief, a purple stuffed unicorn, a notebook, and a folder. We must have this stuff with us at all times. We have a lot to memorize and to do. I'm so incredibly busy right now...I have to shuffle tutoring sessions, and interviews with professors....It's crazy.

We'll see how the second night of pledging goes...
