Name: Joe Schmo

Age: 60

Status: 19 years divorced. Two grown kids, one who lives a couple blocks from me, the other who I think is just graduating from college this year and will likely move in with her mother

Job: Insurance salesman. Bluck.

Lives: In the burbs - like, the burbs where SexyPants used to live…where I lived for 3 months before I had to move out.

Length of Date: 4 hours

We Did: Drinks and apps at a fancy-pants restaurant of my suggestion. I also recommended a couple of other “cooler” places, but I’m pretty sure this place was the only venue that he recognized (there’s another one of these restaurants close to the suburb where he lives)

He Looked: Nice. He’s handsome and a nice dresser, but he seemed old for 60. I mean, Maria set us up and she’s 60, but he just seemed so much older for some reason.

I Looked: I made a couple of tweaks from my Friday work outfit, but they were simple - changed my tall boots to sexy black booties (Louboutins) and changed my simple sweater to a blouse with some sheer cutouts. Touched up my makeup and floofed my hair a tad, and voila! Date night Friday night!

First Impression: Nice looking, nice guy who was actually quite funny as well.

Convo: We talked a LOT about lots of things. I liked the way we never ran out of topics. We talked a bit about current events, the #metoo movement, the women’s march I was attending the next day. We talked work. We talked travel. We talked dating. He Bumbles a lot.

High Point: Lots of laughs and lots of GOOD champagne.

Low Point: Him saying he thought he was too old for me and me saying, essentially, nonsense! And then him asking me out for the next weekend and me saying SURE!! Not sure why I didn’t agree with him about being too old…but it’s not really that he’s too old for me…it’s that he ACTS too old for me.

How It Ended: He paid the tab and it had to be about $400 - for appetizers and drinks!!! I added it up in my head on the way home. Yikes. We’d both taken rideshares. He’d taken Uber and I’d taken Lyft, so we both dialed up rides and before he had a chance to try anything funny (like kiss me!), my ride showed up!

Chances Are: I agreed to this coming Saturday, but I feel like I might be coming down with a cold…cough…cough. He’d tried to text me all weekend and I was very slow to respond and clearly not super into it. He’s a VERY nice guy, but I’m not feeling it…plus Maria kept bugging me and bugging me about him. And now she’s going to a concert with him tonight (she told me that I should go instead of her, but I want nothing to do with the fuddy duddy band they are going to see) - and he’s getting on her nerves! She sent me the series of texts, which was weird, but it made me like him even less. Ugh.

Date Rating: B for the fact that he was a complete gentleman and all-around nice guy, but C- for the fact that I feel totally eh about him.

More later. Soon, I hope! :)
