Jordan, Jessie, and Chris 9/18/2002

On Friday Jan asked me to go to temple with her. Friday is Shabbat, which in Judaism means that it’s some sort of holy night (Sabbath) where Jews aren’t supposed to be out. We’re supposed to go to service in the evening and then go home and keep praying or something. At least in theory…It’s amusing because the so called ‘religious’ kids act all uppity because they don’t go out…so instead they stay in their dorm rooms/houses/apartments and smoke up and/or drink there. Well then, that’s MUCH better than going out tot party…Gotta love the religious Jews…So anyway, I agreed, mostly because there was going to be a free dinner afterward. We ended up missing services, and just went to the free dinner.

Jan’s friend Adam was slightly obnoxious…I just was getting slightly irritated with him because of his slightly condescending answers to my questions. “I can’t speak Hebrew…is that going to be a major problem?” Normal answer, “Well, it might be, but as long as you read along the English sections, you should be OK.” Adam’s answer: “No, they’re holding tests before you walk in the door.” Gee, thanks…“Is this service going to be all in Hebrew?” Normal answer: “Yes it is.” Adam’s answer: “No, it’s going to be in Spanish.” Fuck you. It wasn’t so much his answers, it was his attitude. Dinner sucked. The cold pasta and bread were OK, and the gefilte fish was pretty good, although I only got one tiny piece. The soup was ridiculous. They gave out plastic bowls, with maybe an inch of watered down broth at the bottom. Now, if you can’t handle making that much soup for so many people, that’s fine. But don’t give out an inch worth of soup that’s watered down so much its lost all chicken broth flavor. The two tiny matzo balls were utterly tasteless. At least put some salt in or something…so my dinner consisted of mainly carbs, which doesn’t fill me up at all. We walked back to the dorms with Adam and Adam’s friend Jordan. I really liked Jordan, and I don’t know why. He has dark red hair, a goatee (sp??), and he’s pretty chubby and broad, but seemed to me like a giant, cuddly teddy bear. We actually had a pretty good conversation (he informed me he can make bongs out of apples). I love guys like that…creative and weird and funny. He was going to be at the party tonight, so I got all excited.

When we got back, we found out that Diane’s friend Chris came up from SUNY-Delhi. (SUNY= State University of New York, for those of you who don’t know). Chris is not conventionally beautiful, but he literally took my breath away. I don’t know what it was about him. He’s shorter than guys I normally like, but he’s broad, and has the most beautifully sculpted face. All I wanted to do was talk to him. And I did, surprisingly, and was very excited about it. Jan’s friend Adam was throwing a party at his house and we all decided to go. We crammed ourselves into a cab, along with Adam and Jordan.

The house was beautiful, and it had punch. I love punch…its so much tastier than beer and gets you drunk so much faster. (It’s Wednesday September 18th now…Playing catch-up is such a bitch). Adam and Jordan split once we got into the party so the rest of us went up to the third floor where the punch was. It was awesome; they had the punch in this massive pot, and we just ladled it into our cups…God I love punch…Anyway, so Chris left to go smoke a cigarette. Once he was gone I told everyone that I really liked him and thought he was gorgeous. Diane informed me that he was a virgin and EXTREMELY inexperienced when it came to girls. She told me to go and tell him what I thought. Since I had some alcohol in me, I got up my courage and left. Alexis came with me. I thought she was coming with me for moral support, but it turned out that she really liked him too, and ended up hooking up with him.

I went back to the group, depressed. Boys prefer seventeen year-olds over me…I kept downing down the punch and drank it even quicker when we couldn’t find Alexis and Chris. They holed themselves up somewhere in the house. Diane and Kira had to practically pry them apart because they were getting pissed. According to them, Alexis hooks up with random boys and then complains that she regrets it the next day. That, and the girls didn’t want the newfound couple getting too far. On top of the drinking, I started smoking one of Diane’s cigarettes. We stayed for another hour or so until the party got broken up by the police. We all trooped onto the bus before the cops got to us. I ended up sitting next to this cutie named Jessie. He lives in a nearby dorm and we ended up talking the entire bus ride. I gave him my dorm and room number. He gave himself a voicemail message so he wouldn’t forget. He never came by…I spoke to Jordan briefly before as the party was getting broken up. I told him I’d see him in Yom Kippur services, but when we did see each other, he just gave me a brief nod. I’ve officially given up on boys. They simply don’t like me.
