The hike in Stuff

I feel like I should write about the hike, but since I didn’t actually go on the hike I don’t have all that many details to share. Megan amuses me because she chooses to do everything in weird ways. Not necessarily in a bad way, just weird. She texted me on Sunday morning and asked if could give her the phone numbers of each of my kids so she could contact them about the day. Instead I gave her number to the kids and had them text her.
They group texted and decided on a hike in the Berkshires. They packed up some backpacks with snacks and water. I told Olsen to make sure she offers to pay for anything if they stop so they don’t look like freeloaders. I don’t usually worry about my kids’ manners, except when it comes to being willing to pay for things.
They left and were gone for most of the day. I got random photos texted to me all day from all four of them and was enjoying knowing things seemed to be going well.
When they got home I asked if they’d had dinner and got a bunch of head-shaking so I offered to order pizza for everyone. So for the second time in two weeks we all sat down for a meal together, although this time much less formal.
I noticed a real connection between Mercer and Megan and was happy to see him out of his shell. I don’t mean in a romantic way, of course, just in the sense that they seemed to be on the same wavelength. He has a really hard time making friends, so it’s great when I see him being friendly with anyone.
Harry spent the evening creating Instagram posts about hiking and I heard Olsen saying something about how she wanted to start getting out more on the trails next summer. So I’d say it was a positive experience.
