Chincoteague trip in In the Kingdom of Suzu

We had a great time in chincoteague. The weather was perfect altho the ocean was very rough and red flags were flying warning people to stay out. It was also very crowded and because of the recent hurricanes, two of the parking lots were washed out so we had to park on the street. We also had to pay to get onto assateague (you stay on Chincoteague and assateague is the national seashore and wildlife preserve). It was $20 per car but it was good for 7 days. Told Jeff that we are “beach spoiled” because wherever we go in the Caribbean or Outer banks we always stay right on the beach, don’t have to load the car up with our stuff and drive to the beach, we just walk out our door and there we are!

We went on a horse and dolphin watch sunset cruise and while we didn’t see any dolphins, we did see the wild horses from a distance and saw a beautiful sunset. The next day, the princesses and I went for a bike ride and I cut a corner too close and had a slight accident. My sunglasses and hat came off and I scraped up my knee and elbow but my sunnies didn’t break! The girls and I then went kayaking to see the wild ponies but again we only saw them from a distance. The guide told us that in his 23 years of giving tours, there is no rhyme or reason as to when and where you will see the horses. Each herd is led by a mare and she decides when and where they will go, just like a woman!—his words not mine.

Our hotel was the closest to getting on to assateague and across the street was a McDonald’s—the only one I saw on the island. I tell you from the time it opened until the time it closed, there was a steady stream of cars going thru the drive thru to get food before heading to the beach or back to town.

The hotel also had a pool and exercise room which the princesses loved and would have happily spent the whole time in the pool. They kept saying they wanted to get sunrise pictures so the last day, we got up early, went to the beach and took pictures. Jeff didn’t think we would get up and princess m almost bagged it but she got up, we went and it was just perfect.

Again, it was really nice to get away with the princesses and to continue our tradition of beach vacation with them even if it was just a mini.

I'm so glad you got this time together. I know how important it is. Was your daughter with you, too? How is your knee? You must have panicked when you fell on it!

My daughter and her husband were not able to make it as this is her busy time at work (one of the reasons why we didn't plan an OBX vacation this year but I missed doing something with the girls so much I was glad we could book a mini with the girls at least).

Do you , Jeff, and the princesses go on a beach vacation every year? Glad you had a glimpse of the wild ponies a couple of times. Smiles.

Yes, we have taken the princesses to the beach at least six times usually with my daughter and her husband, this has only been the second time we just took them and it wasn't a week long trip. We have also all gone to Disney world and when the princesses were really small, we would do a couple of day trips.

How wonderful that you share this special yearly time with the princesses. Just think, some day when you and Jeff have passed on your granddaughters will remember the trips and the time you spent with them. Smiles.

Sounds so exciting and I am sure it was an amazing journey with your granddaughters. I hope I can do that with my grand kids some day too. I am sure they will treasure this memory for a life time!1
