Crummy Parents and Camp 8/13/2002

Almost fourteen days until I go back to school. Dionne's going back up to 'Cuse next week, and Rin is already there. Rin's and RA for this year, and is therefore required to cut her summer vacation by two weeks for 'RA training.'

I sometimes wonder what would've happened if I did become an RA. I would've gotten a monster single room and free room and board. Being an RA is an easy way to make friends, since you're always doing activities and having meetings and stuff. Would've been nice...But no, I got waitlisted...Its not like I'm bitter or anything :o) I just get tired of not getting my first choice with stuff. Things never come easy to me, whether it comes to getting into schools, making friends, getting the that 'A'...It just gets tiring sometimes. But anyway, enough with that. I didn't get the RA job and I'm not at Syracuse any more, so why wonder 'what if?'

Onto other news, Brittany, a friend from work, invited me to her going away/graduation/birthday party this Saturday. Most of my other friends from camp aren't going, and I'm a little nervous to go not knowing anyone else except Brit. But what the hell, I might as well go, right? Get me in the right mind frame for college, no?

And speaking of work, today was awesome. It was as hot as hell, but luckily we had our Tuesday-Thursday group rather than our Monday-Wednesday-Friday group. So yeah, we had seven kids come in today instead of nine, all girls, and no diapers to change. Plus it was a double swim day, which means we were in the one-foot kiddie pool almost all day. It was fantastic, all I had to do was sit in the sun and sunbathe. Little girls are SO well-behaved.

Jodie, once again, didn't come in today, but it didn't matter. I hope she gets fired. She's done absolutely nothing in the eight weeks she's been here. If she's not here tomorrow, Heather and I agreed that we're taking her off the tip sheet.

Yesterday was a mess. We have a little boy in our group named Matthew M., who's a camp counselor's worst nightmare. He hurts other kids, especially the girls (i.e. grabbing shoulders and/or bathing suits, shouting in people's faces, running away, eating other people's food, jumping in off the side of the pool, etc). Jodie, in her infinite wisdom, told Matthew M's mother that her child was horrible. Now, I agree, but when telling a parent that her child is Satan, you need to put a little bit of a positive spin on things. Like, "Yes, your child is evil incarnate, but he was very well-behaved at art today." That sort of thing...Anyway, so Matthew M's mother stopped Heather in the parking lot later that afternoon and told Heather that Jodie was 'full of negativity towards her child and that she didn't want Jodie anywhere near Matthew any more.' I don't agree with Jodie being as tactless as she was, but she was telling the truth. Matthew M. has a real behavioral problem and he endangers not only himself, but other campers.

The next morning the same mother drops her two kids (Matt and his older sister) off at camp early so she could talk to Yosefa, my boss. Heather and I figured Jodie was the one getting in trouble, so we didn't give it too much thought. Later, when camp was starting, Yosefa gets me, Regine, and Heather together and informs us that a complaint has been filed against ALL OF US by Matthew M.'s mother. She feels that we're all negative towards her son and that we don't like him. (Well, we don't, but can you blame us?? He hurts the other babies)! So I for once in my life stood up to Yosefa and told her all of the stuff the Mattew M. does in camp. Yosefa agreed with me, for a change, that Matthew has issues. 'However, it's only two more weeks of camp and it's be in everyone's best interests if we didn't mention the trouble Matthew causes any more.' (Advice given to us by Yosefa).
