On a Lighter Note 10/10/2001
Diana, my friend from Carnegie Mellon, called me that Friday night. Blondie had left that morning. She told me that a few of her friends were going to Carousel Mall and she wanted to know if she could swing by. The idea was that she'd be here by 3:30, she'd take me out for a birthday dinner, and then she'd catch a bus home by six. Well, she and her friends left Oswego late, got lost, and didn't get here until five. Diana told me that we wouldn't have enough time for us to go out to eat and for her to get back to her bus stop in time, so she suggested that I come beack to Oswego with her. Just pack up and leave. So I threw some stuff in a bag and left.
We left kind of late and tried calling a cab to get us to the bus stop. The cab ran late, of course, so we decided to walk. Diana wanted to hitch a ride, but I'm not that spontaneous. So we walked a mile (in heels!) to the bus stop to find out that we'd missed it. It was getting dark, and if you know Syracuse, then you know you can't be alone in that city when it gets dark. Especially if its two air-headed NY girls...We called the cab company again, but they were pissed at us for standing them up last time. We got a cool cab driver. We went to Carousel Mall, where the next bus stop was, but we had just missed that one also. We raced to the Regional Transport Center, where Diana ran to the bus to falg it down while I threw money at the cab driver and thanked her profusely. She broke several laws to get us there in time...namely the speed limit. We actually managed to get to the bus unharmed.
The original plan was to go out and get trashed. Unlike SU bars, Oswego bars let you in as long as you are a member of the homo-sapien species and have a pulse. Then Diana decided that she was tired. As much as I just wanted to drink and just make the world disappear, I wanted to talk to Diana. I missed her and I hadn't seen her in a year. We both led separate lives and didn't have time to visit each other. We rarely even called each other. Most of the time, we just stuck to IMs. I love talking to her. She always adds sound effects to her speech. She's just so funny.
I ended up paying for most of the dinner, but that was fine. I love being with her. I walked back to her dorm in the freezing cold. Oswego is actually colder, and a hell of a lot windier than Syracuse. We ended up watching City of Angels and American Beauty in her room. I slept in her roommate's bed because she was away. We got up pretty late the next day. Diana promised me that there's always a bus back to Syracuse at noon. Of course there wasn't. The last bus was at 3:25, which basically meant I had to run back to school as soon as I got off the bus because I had a Freshmen Forum dinner at 5:30.
Freshman Forum is generally a b.s. class that is supposed to acclimate you to college life. It's OK. My professor bitched me out once, but I'm starting to think he's cool. Anyway, since we have no real assignments, our attendance for this dinner was a major part of our grade. And since my bus got to my bus stop at 5:25 and it was a fifteen minute walk back to the university, I was a little nervous.
Actually, this pretty cute guy got off the bus with me and asked for directions to the dorm adjecent to mine. We walked together back to the school and talked a little. He's from Oswego visiting a friend. That's all I know. He was nice to me, which is totally out of the ordinary when it comes to the male treatment of me.
I ended up getting back with time to spare and I gave Oswego Boy my map and some pretty good directions. If only I hadn't had that damn dinner to go to I could've walked back with him. Ah well.
My class and I went out to a Vietnamese restaurant, which turned out to be good.
Yeah...I have class at 8:30 am tomorrow so I think I'm done with my updates.
