I Don't Know Anymore 9/3/2001
Thursday was uneventful--I stayed in. On Friday I went to services with Linda. I sucked at the Reformed services. I couldn't read the Hebrew passage I was given and felt like an ass. I mingled with everyone else, but wasn't really making any friends. Linda of course met this girl named Rachel who became Linda's best friend for the night. Linda's definitely a socialite. On one hand I'm glad I don't have an anti-social slug, but on the other, it gets very intimidating. People who didn't seem interested in talking to me all loved Linda. This really hot premed named Jay was one of them. I really, REALLY liked him...of course, he was all over her. Anyway, before we had left, Linda had gotten at least three or four phone numbers. And I got (SURPRISE!) zero--I made a real honest attempt too.
Anyway, we were walking back to the dorms with Jay and his roommate Josh. Josh is six feet tall or more, is cracking 250 pounds, and is the biggest slob I'd ever seen. He's nice and everything, but...I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. And I do mean this in the most literal sense. Anyway, I was walking and talking to Jay on our way back up to the dorms. He lives in the dorm adjecent to mine. Josh says, "Wow, you two should go out...you really mesh well." I smiled and kind of laughed it off by saying, "Yeah, our idea of a date would be dissecting a cadaver." (Haha, he's premed and I'm a biology major.) Anyway, so we go back up to the dorms, change, and go to Jay's room, which is crazy huge--it's a converted lounge. Josh seems to have disappeared, so it's me, Jay, and Linda. We all went back to my dorm to collect some other people. Right off the bat I can see Jay's a player. He's going into all the girls' rooms, introducing himself, being all touchy-feely with everyone, etc. Anyway, I had been doing some rum shots before, and I was a little tipsy and very outgoing. It turns out Linda really liked Jay too. My running joke became, "Yeah, Linda and I are in competition for the same guys." Linda would reply, "Oh, you can't get mad at me if I hook up with him or vice versa." I laughed and said, "Oh, I'll get mad, I just won't tell you about it." (Note: I was laughing when I said this). Anyway, so we left the dorms in search of this house, and I noticed Jay getting very affectionate with Linda. My heart kind of sunk, but I joked with this girl Jess whom I just met, "Ah well, looks like Linda is gonna get Jay. I'll just have to hook up with some frat boy."
We're all walking along, and Jay and Linda were now holding hands. We were almost to the house when Linda says, "Oops I forgot my umbrella, I need to go back." Jay offered to go with her. They came back quickly, with Jay saying that he didn't want to walk back that far. He changed his mind a few minutes later and decided that he would go back with Linda. They came back a few minutes later with Jay giving the same excuse. (My God, Jay, make up your mind. Either stay put or get out of here). Linda was definitely frustrated. The third time they left, only Linda came back. Jay bailed and went to another party. Jess bailed soon afterward.
So now its me, Linda, and this girl named Dionne, who's more than a little slow and has such a severe speech impediment that almost no-one understands her. I'm not picking on her, mind you, she's just a tough chick to hang out with. I don't know how this happened but we met up with this remarkably drunk girl and this hot guy named Abadahl. Weird name, HOT guy. Absolutely stunning Indian guy who was extremely well-built. I really, really wanted to hook up with him. So we're all chilling out in this basement and I met some Asian girl from Long Island and some other girl named Mona, friend of the extremely drunk girl--her name was Joana. I was hanging out, having a good time, when all of a sudden, Joana plops herself down and just sits against the wall. Linda wasn't feeling good either so we all went outside. Linda decided that she was going to walk home, but I wouldn't let her go by herself. I left the party, got the room numbers of Abadahl and Joana, and left with Dionne and Linda. Linda said that she was sorry that she was being such a downer, but she just wasn't feeling well. I told her, Linda, I didn't want you walking home alone. Don't apologize. You're my friend and I didn't want you getting hurt." Not to pat myself on the back, but I thought I was being a damn good friend.
