Work Sucks 8/13/2001
Today I took a day off from work. I joked about taking today off last night, but I wasn't really serious. This morning it was gray and about to rain. It was just one of those mornings that all you wanted to do was snuggle in your comforter and stay in bed. My alarm rang at six. I reset it so I could sleep another ten minutes. I turned it off when it rang again and promised myself I would get up in another ten minutes. Make a long stroy short, I didn't wake up again until 7:15.
In school, no matter how late I would wake up, I would almost always go. See, I had motivation to go to school. Getting good grades, getting into a good college, my mother kicking my ass if I didn't go, etc. In camp, I have no motivation. My boss, Diane, had promised me $1200 for the summer. Then, something got fucked up with my W2 forms and now I'm getting almost $270 taken out of my paycheck for taxes. Basically, I'm working eight hours a day, five days a week, for seven weeks, and I'm walking away with a little over $900. Not only that, my boss is a bitch. Even when I'm doing good she's mean. When my girls got lotion in their eyes, Diane didn't help, with the Caleih situation, Diane didn't take my side, or even ask for my side of the story. When the whole camp was going to Splish Splash on Friday, Diane didn't bother to tell me until Friday morning that she didn't need me to go on the trip. What's my motivation for going??? Sam, Amy, and Megan are nice, Teal and I are civil, but I'm not really friends with any of them.
John came home from work today and told me Diane was pissed that I didn't come in. At this point, why should I? Most of the counselors who work there have parents who either work for or who have parents affiliated with the camp in some way. Teal has been coming in half days for almost the entire summer because she has driver's ed, and no-one complains. Her mother works at the camp. Suzy and Gretchen have come in late how many times this summer? Counselors have to be at camp by 8:20, and these girls come in around 9:00 because they need to get coffee first. No-one says anything.
I'm applying for a job at another camp for next summer. It's a camp run by a private school, so the facilities are better. I'll be getting paid $1600 for the summer, not to mention tips. My sister works at this same camp and is getting $60 per tip. I had three kids leave camp already, and I got one $10 tip.
Aaaccckk, and to think I have to work during the school year too...
