Canned 8/10/2001
This sucks...It's a Friday night, I'm eighteen, and I'm sitting home with nothing better to do than write in OD...ah well.
I almost got fired last week. My camper from hell, Caleigh, was the reason. The day camp I work at is located in a World's Gym. Me and the kids were walking past work-out machines last Friday when Caleigh suddenly runs ahead and picks up some weights. She pulled on this cord which lifted the weights (wait this gets better) and then sticks her head and her hand underneath the weights. I figured that if those things dropped on her, she would be seriously injured. I tried to grab her shirt to pull her back, but I ended up scraping the back of her neck with my fingernails. Her neck wasn't bleeding, but there were definite nail marks on her. Naturally, the kid runs ahead once again to her mother and shows her mom her neck. I tried to explain what happened , but it just didn't look good for me. I put a bandaid and an ice pack on Caleigh's neck.
Later, I see the mother talking to my boss Diane. Neither one looked overly happy so I figured I would get into trouble even though my intentions were good. When I was working out upstairs an hour later I see Diane talking to Teal. (The upstairs is kinda like a big balcony; basically I could see and hear stuff going on downstairs). I didn't hear what Diane said, but Teal asked, "Really? Whoa, what happened?" I figured Diane was telling Teal what had happened. And if Diane is telling Teal, then she was probably pissed enough to fire me. I wasted a perfectly good weekend worrying about it. On Monday Diane didn't say a word to me and neither did the parents.
I'm just pissed that I wasted a weekend worrying about this crappy job. I worked my ass off for eight hours a day for seven weeks and I'm getting paid $933. My stupid bosses filled out my tax return wrong, so now I'm getting almost $270 taken out of my paycheck. My sister works at a day camp affiliated with a private school and just got a check for $1100. Granted she's a head counselor, but even the counselors at her camp make $1600--no taxes are taken out.
The only good thing to come out of last week was that my kids did awesome in the talent show. They did a little song and dance to "Mambo #5" by Lou Bega. I had counselors and campers coming up to me telling me how great I did. I got a $10 tip, which was nice.
Until later
