I found a website, www.epinions.com. You can search for a college and find out what the students think of the school. These opinions are written by actual students, not people who "heard" about Syracuse. All I can say is that I want to cry...
The Academics? They STINK! Syracuse was a horrible experience for me, in terms of academics. The school claims to be 'student centered', but I rarely found a professor who was willing to work with me and my needs. I also found the equipment, as a Television-Radio-Film major, sorely outdated and frequently broken, both in the editing suites and the studio. I hated that. I feel that the communications program would be better-suited for broadcast journalism majors. It seems that the S.I. Newhouse school caters more to their needs than to the needs of students of other majors. It took me two years to decide to transfer to a local school, where i'm paying $28,000 less a year, and getting a more personalized college experience. I don't regret meeting the people I met in Syracuse, and some of the professors were wonderful, but overall it just wasn't worth the money and trouble.
I am currently a student at syracuse university. I love it here. the people are great, the campus is beautiful, the residence halls are nice. however the food... thats another story. its not very good and half of the time you cant even tell what your eating, except that it says it on the label. even the food that is not that bad gets old fast. you can only have fries so many nights in a row. Breakfast is by far the worst. have you ever eaten cafeteria breakfast? if the answer is no, dont start! runny eggs, funny sausage things. yuck! Lunch and dinner are not as bad because one learns to live off of salad and fruit very very fast! Burger king seems gourmet now. when that happens, you know that your in trouble. overall, I don't see how the freshman 15 are possible. the worst thing is that I've only been here a week!! like most people I've already resorted to ordering in. this becomes expensive, but is still much better then the alternatives which are mystery meat and chunky sauce. even the salad is not always good. every once in a while the salad just tastes funny. have you ever eaten funny tasting cucumbers? Its not good. All in all syracuse is the place to be, just not the place to eat. i advise going food shopping or ordering in. otherwise you might start eating your text books.(after all what else are they good for?)
