Almost Done 6/1/2001

I am almost done with high school. My last day of classes is on June 13. I think I have eight or nine school days left. I really should write more often before school ends. Just to give myself some last memories...I can't say I'll miss high school itself, but I'll miss the familiarness (is that a word?) of everything. I'll miss Panama and Kala waiting for me at my locker every morning, and talking to Alibali in my b.s. typing class, talking trash about Mr. Brickley with Sara, Mr. McCafferty's infinite sweetness (He's my AP bio teacher...he was one of my deciding factors that made me want to become a biology major), laughing with the class clowns during economics...Sigh. Not that high school was a bowl of peaches (I got that phrase from a movie...I thought it was cute and quirky). Arrgh. I hate sappy entries, so I will change the subject.

I'm done with most of my final projects. I finished my DBQ for AP European History. I have a free first period now because there's nothing else to do. I have AP English second period, but all we do is watch movies. We just finished watching "Fight Club," which is one of my favorite movies. I had a seven page paper I was supposed to turn in for a final project, but when Panama was reading it over for me, we discovered I was missing one of my pages. Sigh. One more assignment to do this weekend. I love Mr. McCafferty, he's an awesome teacher, but he gave us a last-minute monster final project. WE have to do three complex essays, and I have to paint a 2ft by 3ft board of plywood that shows a biological function or a diagram of a biological function. I love to paint, but he's really cutting it close with time. I'm really happy though; he plans to hang my painting in the main office for the entire school to see during graduation. After that, he's either leaving the painting in the main office or bringing it back up to his room.

My friend Batman and I were talking today, and she made a very interesting comment: "Sfter you graduate, no-one will remember your name." I don't know why, but that comment really bothered me. One of my worst fears is to be forgotten. It's another silly fear of mine. I guess that's why doing this painting, and doing it well, is so important to me. I just want to be remembered. So far, I painted an art mural in an art classroom, I will have Mr. McCafferty's mural, and I also took part in a monster 3D mural in the auditorium. My art mural is a copy of Van Gogh's "Flowers in a Copper Vase," my biology mural will be a diagram of the flower and plant parts, and my 3D mural is a school. It's called P.M.S. (my last name begins with P, and the rest stands for Middle School. My art teacher thought it was cute.) My mural is one of seven or eight other 3D buildings that my art classmates did. The entire thing took about six months to complete. I think it's about 24ft long and 12 ft high or something like that. It's really beautiful. One of these days, I'll figure out how to work my scanner and display some of my art work.

Until later
