A Real Kick in the Balls 3/4/2001

Ok, this entry if going to be filled with some miscellaneous stuff. First, I've had several heart attacks from my colleges, Brandeis in particular. I applied there as a definite reach school, and I'm 90% positive what the decision will be. They keep sending me these thin envelopes from the admissions office because they think its funny.

A few days ago, my mom, after hyper-ventilating, told me I had received a thin envelope from Brandeis. (She seems to harbor this ridiculous notion that I have a shot at getting into the school.) The first two lines were "Don't panic. Stay calm. This is not a decisions letter." It basically just wanted me to know that they didn't get me senior grades yet. The first time this happened was a few weeks ago when I received another thin envelope from Brandeis, again from their admissions office. It was from the junior class president, Josh Peck. Basically, it was a p.o.s. letter explaining to use why Brandeis kicks ass. (Obviously, we know it kicks ass...That's why we applied.) I went onto a college message board and saw a conversation about Brandeis. Basically, the snobs who got the 1400 and 1500's had also received the letter and were bragging because they thought it meant they were getting a scholarship because their stats were so high. Hahaha, I got an 1170, and I got the letter. Everyone came to the consensus that anyone who got the letter was in the "consider" pile. I was so excited---I mean, I have a shot right? Nope. Josh Peck himself e-mailed the message board explaining every applicant got a letter. Damn, was that a kick in the balls...so now I'm back to square one.

U of Rochester sucks too. They are trying so hard to be like the IVY League schools and failing miserably. U of Rochster is the safety school for the people who are applying to the Ivies. 10,000 people apply to Rochester, 66% get in, but only 970 enroll. That's like a 17% yield. Instead of discriminating against people who have 1100's, who work really hard, and would unhestitatingly hand over $30,000 to the school, they suck up to the people who get 1400 and 1500's on their SAT's who aren't going to bother going to UR anyway. This sucks. If I get rejected, that means 73% of the people who DO get UR acceptance letter will throw them out. Life sucks.

Everyone keeps telling me that my scores are well below UR's average. Yeah, but I work my ass off, and I'm as motivated as hell. SAT's don't predict how well you do in college. My sister's ex-boyfriend got a 1350 on the SAT's and got into Cornell. That 1350 predicted he'd kick ass in college. Well, he's been on academic probation for the past two years. My sister got a 1230 and went to Binghamton. That score also predicted she'd do pretty well, right? Nope. After 3 years she has a 2.8 average, and she's never really took any super hard classes. My heavy courseload, A average, and enormous amounts of extracurriculars can tell a school a lot more about me than a damn test. GD test.

Until next my next vent about life
