Many sides in Deplorable thoughts

I don’t know.
I don’t want to agree with the man, but
what he says does sound reasonable and right.

The president condemns the hatred and violence in Charlottesville “from many sides.”
It would seem the right thing to say, the right thing to do.
Condemning turning hatred into violence, into murder,
just yesterday,
that’s exactly what our country’s honorable leader should do.

Except…

Only one side of the conflict had converged on the city with the stated purpose of supporting the continuation and escalation of organized hatred and suppression of others and their rights.
Only one side organized and prepared weapons and shields and flags and chants to incite and intimidate, went to town not only to state their views but to physically “defend” them, to use violence if {gleeful chuckle} necessary.
Only one side so inculcated and encouraged its members that one of them committed an act of (a most cowardly form of) random murder, gunning his vehicle into a crowd of people, killing one woman and injuring a number of others simply because they opposed his ideology.
Only one side is proud of the killer and his laudable action on the part of their cause.

No, your hollow universal accusation falls apart too easily.
The mayhem and death in Charlottesville is not the fault of “many sides.”
It is the fault of one side, a side with which you are quite familiar.
You have to own your own very large portion of guilt in this conflagration
for which you laid down the gasoline soaked kindling,
for which you prepared your cult to light the fire.

While you are right, there has been hatred around long before you,
it is you, YOU, Honorary Grand Wizard Trump,
darling of David Duke, the KKK and fascists the world over,
who has brought hatred and bigotry mainstream once again in this country,
who has given hope and justification for ways of thinking and courses of action
that we, the human race, should have outgrown over a century ago.

Man up, would you please.
Stop pretending you’re not protecting your sad sick base.
Stop your rhetorical sleight of tongue that turns
every offense perpetrated by you and yours
into an accusation that it was really you who are the victim
and the victims who are the evil offenders.
